Celtic 19:24 - Aug 26 with 1972 views | Miaow | Could be knocked out of the Champions League in the play-off round this evening by Kairat of Kazakhstan... 0–0 in Glasgow and 0–0 tonight and heading for extra time. Kairat apparently have a very wealthy owner.

Celtic on 20:58 - Aug 26 by FifeITFC | Of course, if you speak to most Celtic fans, they seem to think they'd be very comfortable in the English Premier League if they ever get the opportunity. Balderdash. |
As much as I hate both clubs, they would both be high up in the PL after a few years of investment/PL money. Currently, all Celtic fans care about is doing well in Europe, as the league is basically already wrapped up. Look at teams like Newcastle, Forest and Aston Villa over recent years. They are all big clubs that were in the Championship, and now in Europe. [Post edited 26 Aug 21:40]

Celtic on 21:22 - Aug 26 by StNeotsBlue | To be clear I'm definitely not a fan of either Rangers or Celtic joining the English pyramid but if they did with the wealth of the Premier League at their disposal and their world wide pull they'd soon be big fish. |
I agree with you - if Rangers and Celtic were to move to the PL, they would certainly struggle for a few seasons and will probably be relegated. But once they find their feet, and once top players have confidence that both clubs are capable for CL finishes, they will easily overtake Spurs and Arsenal and then challenge Liverpool and Man City. The PL clubs will be silly to vote them in - plus who wants their supporters bringing more sectarianism and violence south of the border.

Not quite, our new pals in Aberdeen still have a chance in Bucharest on Thursday.

Easily overtake Arsenal?! I am in agreement with others that if they were given a few years to build they’d certainly become top half Premier League clubs but don’t see in what universe they would easily overtake Arsenal!

Agree with you - I didn’t think that one through. I do think that in time they will rival Arsenal and overtake them but I was silly to use the word ‘easily’.

In my head I would think they have the club size / stature to challenge for top 6 within say a 5-8 years, but I do think the established big 4/5/6 (however you want to cut it) have so many years of entrenched advantage that it would be hard for them to crack into. That said, Man U (and spurs) have recently shown that there’s no divine right to finish in the top half for the big clubs. I guess we’ll never know…

Think you've gone a bit big there personally! Rangers have 760K Instagram followers and Celtic 1M for instance, compared to 31M for Arsenal and 18M for Spurs. I could see both growing to PL regulars but they'd start a long way behind in global support, have smaller stadiums and Glasgow / Scotland is no London. Maybe they could grow their global reach to compete with a Newcastle, who have 3.3M followers.

And there speaks someone who has never walked down Buchanan Street at midnight on Friday, wonderful swelter of joyous noise and exuberance that it is.

I know nothing about Instagram followers or their equivalent but the reality is if Rangers or Celtic do well 100,000+ turn up en masse for a final. The level of support for both clubs is insane

I have and I've lived on the outskirts of Glasgow, in Leith and in Dundee (for my sins) during my time wandering this earth. The difference in global support between these two and the PL giants is huge, as impressive as the core support of the Scottish clubs always has been.

I'd like to think we'll be travelling in bulk for our next one too. 😉 They're great numbers but I'd wager the additional amount of Arsenal fans on the planet runs into the tens of millions.
