This all reminds me of the Ian Crook saga… 00:34 - Aug 28 with 1379 viewsbrazil1981

For you youngsters he was one of Nodge’s best players in the mid 90’s and agreed to join us at end of a contract I guess, quite a coup we thought at the time! Had press photos done in our kit, brought his kids replica shirts etc…then literally just before signing had a complete change of heart and signed back with them!

Yep. Made me think of that. There was also Mark Rivers who had a trial with us after his contract there was up. I can remember attending a friendly he was playing in and our own fans singing "you can stick Mark Rivers up your a***" He didn't sign.

But then they got Jordan Rhodes and Alan Lee after they left us. Who was the best we ever got from them? Must be going back some time now. John Deehan? Was there someone from a generation before that?

He did sign a contract with us, but asked for the contract to be post-dated so he could continue getting the money he was owed by them.

In the meantime, they changed manager (the second coming of Mike Walker?) and he signed a contract for them, this time with the correct date on.

The Football League were called upon to sort it out. And as their contract was dated earlier than ours, they decided he should stay with them.

John Deehan and Clive Baker were both decent for us (apart from when Baker got lobbed stood on his line).

From memory he wasn’t really that special for Norwich subsequent to that episode! Whilst we had a good 4 or 5 years with Burley! Probably all worked out for the best in hindsight but I remember being very miffed at the time!

Yes, I think that's right a player very much in decline at that stage. So was Mike Walker who couldn't get close to his excellent first spell at Nodge.

Crook was 33 when he agreed to join us & subsequent events would indicate that Norwich had let his contract run down for a reason. Hardly much of a "coup". He only agreed to join Town as he didn't want to uproot his family from the area.
