Can we get one thing clear! 17:46 - Sep 1 with 707 views | BlueNomad | We did NOT “let Burgess go.” He was offered a new contract and turned it down. As a free agent he decided to leave. KMc has said that he would have liked him to stay. The people banging on about what a “ridiculous” decision it was should be aware of that by now.

Yep. Whilst not actually letting him go, our treatment of him led to his decision to go. It’s a cut throat business, but it’s a shame we didn’t give some of the old guard a few more chances. Burgess didn’t look bad last season, neither did Woolf nor Chappers. No worse than those who replaced them at least.

Long term that might prove to be a good choice, but he performed better than Greaves last season IMO. Also by all accounts we didn't want to give him an extra year. For a not ancient CB, it seemed odd to me. I would have looked to keep him around and have him competing for game time.

Can we get one thing clear! on 18:08 - Sep 1 with 490 views | franz_tyson | I like Greaves, but Burgess came into the side and was one of our better players and was then at the earliest moment replaced by Greaves. It wasn't a case of waiting until the time was right to replace Burgess... it was a case of Greaves taking his place not down to form.... just because he was the one who came in on tbe big fee and, most importantly, the high ceiling. Burgess wasn't let go... but wasn't given a fair crack. It would have been embarrassing for a 750k defender keeping a 15 million quid player out of the side.

he was offered a new deal, i think he wanted to get more game time, so he was never going to sign it

Can we get one thing clear! on 18:25 - Sep 1 with 345 views | blueoutlook | We could have offered him a better deal than we did. Bloody Swansea gave him what he wanted I’m sure we could have. I’d much rather him than Greaves in there. Utter waste of money from what I’ve seen so far. | | | | Login to get fewer ads
Can we get one thing clear! on 19:15 - Sep 1 with 227 views | BlueForYou | If McKenna wanted him to stay, then he should have offered him a three year contract. You can't say we couldn't afford it. So we did let him go, by not offering what he deserved. In effect we said we don't rate you enough, which is total rubbish. Can't blame Burgess for telling him where to go. Terrible man management.
