We like 2.33 XG against blades! when was the last game we exceeded that? 22:44 - Sep 15 with 1499 viewsunstableblue

Certainly not last season?

Is it all the way back to the 3.73XG in the 6-0 win over Sheff Weds in March 2024?

Anyway lots more of it please McKenna!

According to FotMob, it was… er, the previous game. 2.91xG v Derby (though that did include a penalty). Bristol Rovers in the cup was also higher but also featured a pen so if it’s non-penalty xG you’re looking for, you’re right, it was Sheffield Wednesday in March last year.

I know it's a small sample size but given the slow start its nice to see we are still 2nd in the league for xG difference.

And something like 5th best for xg against too.

Suggests we're not a million miles off doesn't it? Even if we're not quite in top gear yet.

Even taking the penalty out at Derby, it was only just less. Our stats are looking good, as each game goes by, and if that continues, over the course of a season, it will end in results.

Derby game :

And yet the xG was ~3, way higher than every other game except Bristol, who scored 4 with an xG of 3.5.

The non-penalty xG was only 0.7 lower, still higher by some margin than almost all other teams yesterday. And when did set-piece goals become worth less than open play goals?

Not far off at all IMO. I stand by the opinion that Brum was a stinker of an opening game, Friday night, under the lights, at a side unbeaten at home last season with the momentum they had. I don't think we could've hand picked a worse one. It was a poor game, scrappy and not many chances for either side, but a fair result. 4 of our 16 used that night are no longer here, and a further 3 or 4 are certainly further down the pecking order.

We've been the better side in each of the 4 games since them IMO. I'm still annoyed at the 2nd half against Derby, we should've put them to bed. 5 points yielded from the 4 games is probably 3 fewer than we need and I'd say deserved (absolute minimum). But we're looking progressively better, which is to be expected with the level of change we've seen.

We're well capable of sticking a run of wins together now and that's what we need to do. The performances have been OK all things considered, but the season starts now innit.
