Today the govt will start the process of introducing a Hillsborough Law 04:25 - Sep 16 with 921 views | bluelagos | https://politicsuk.com/landmark-hillsborough-law-bill-introduced-to-parliament/ Lots of reports this morning that it will include a duty of candour - to criminalise the type of cover up the police engaged in after the South Yorks police unlawfully killed 97 innocent football fans in 89. Campaigners have been insisting that any proposals must include a duty of candour - so hope all the reports are right in that respect.

Indeed. Police officers queued up and were happy to lie and mislead a public inquiry that was trying to establish the facts of how and why fans died at a game of football. South Yorks and West Mids officers were so corrupt, they had to change the law. That is their legacy.

It's ridiculous isn't it. If you had no idea how inquiries worked and simply thought they weres way to establish the truth of events, and then someone had told you there was no requirement for public officials to tell the truth and no consequences for lying, they'd think you were nuts. It's long overdue.
