My view on Jacob Greaves 18:45 - Sep 20 with 970 viewscbower

Positives : He can win a decent share of straight forward aerial duels. He (mostly) looks comfortable with the ball at his feet. He seems willing to drive into any space that opens up in front of him. He is (a bit of) a threat at attacking corners.
Negatives : Unfortunately he reminds of a more classy Matthew Pennington. By that I mean he is far too reliant on the last ditch tackle or block. This is the result of ball watching and / or getting caught under the ball. Whilst I said he (mostly) looks comfortable on the ball, this comes with a few caveats: 1 - his passing can be slack and 2 - he moves the ball too slowly at times. Finally, whilst winning his share of straightforward aerial duels, he ends up far too often for my liking on his ar$e in our box, nudged off the ball and looking for a foul. For a centre half, that's not a good sign.
Overall, he really does need to become far more consistent in lots of parts of his game in my opinion.

I was chatting to a WBA fan yesterday who can’t believe we have Kipre as back up, says he is better than Greaves and O Shea.

The only Muff in Town.

I think and hope there is a strong prospect that Kipre comes in to cover the ban and does well enough to keep the shirt.

That's a good post. He looks ok 90% of the time but somehow doesn't inspire trust. He's also weak at times or at least struggles to stay on his feet. Good on the ball but moves it slowly. Think he's at his level and needs to keep it simple sometimes to avoid errors.

Was thinking of Pennington earlier as a comparison. Better footballer than him, but positionally similar frailties which result in what you're saying with the last ditch tackles.

As a partnership these 2 don't work at all and we need to accept that and change it early enough to stop it ruining our season.

When joined us I thought he was outstanding. Thfn he got injured, and I dont know where that commanding CB has gone. McKenna will probably ly play him again v Pomoey, but id like to see Kipre given his chance for a bit. Greaves just keeps making mistakes. There's a good player in there still, but maybe he just needs to come out of the firing line for a bit.

He is too lightweight for a big lad, and has done little to justify his very large transfer fee.

Up and mainly down, following Town since 88

That particular instance was down to him not being able to keep up with a pacey attacker bursting forward when caught out a long way up the field. Which is perhaps unsurprising for a CB.

Good Lord! Whatever is it?

My observations were general Gutters, not specifically related to one incident or today's game but I take your point.

He was caught wrong side of the guy. Which happens to him an awful lot.
