Ryder Cup 2025 thread 12:04 - Sep 26 with 10069 viewsThe_Romford_Blue

For those of us who will be watching this weekend, I thought a thread for it makes sense.

Who’d we reckon? I’ve had a lumpy bet on the Americans at 1.74 on the machine. For four reasons:
- Scottie Scheff. His singles point is almost automatic and he’s going to be lethal in the four balls as well.
- Depth. The yanks have every player ranked 23 or above in the rankings. Whereas Europe have 5 players ranked below that.
- Class. The Americans have 7 of the world’s top 10.
- Home advantage. That’s the main one for me. Only 2 away European victories in 45 years. I see no reason as to why that changes here. The course will be set up to suit the Americans.

Thought 1.74 was a proper price and have backed accordingly.

Poll: Would you take a draw tonight if offered right now?

No worries. Fortunately I'm not on social media (apart from TWTD), so am glad to say what goes on there passes me by.

Same … THIS is my social media … I think it’s just the right balance.

Poll: Scottish clubs, by unwritten law we all have one, which one is yours ?

Apologies if your comment is aimed at me. There was a thread about behaviour but that had died a death, so I posted this here.

I suppose I was struck by what Rory McIlroy had to say after the game about what went on, and the behaviour certainly seemed to reach a new low, so I was interested to read what the Telegraph had to say about it.

I have removed it, so hope you will be happy.

The Independent had a terrible article on it. No need to remove anything DJR.

It's a big defeat for the Americans. Be interested to see what they do from here. The European spirit runs so deep, formed back in the days pre 1979, & fostered by the newly formed European Tour with Seve, Bernhard, Sandy, Nick, etc. Then passed in through the ages. How do the US replicate that? They can't but they can come up with a program which works for them. Their problem is however, they now hand out ten PGA Tour cards per year to the top ten players on the DP/ European Tour. Before long they'll be flooded with European/World players who will be gaining US experience. The Universities are handing out worldwide Golf scholarships at the moment too. The US will find it even harder I think, & they have to look at modifying these recent options. In my opinion those ten tour cards is too much , as it also robs the European tour of its best players on a yearly basis. Then there is Liv.

Golf is certainly in a good place & offers a great career path for youngsters today if they work hard, practice hard, train hard, & play hard!

They're now objecting to the ruling despite having benefitted from it twice in the past.
Is it just the 24 hour news cycle and the need for 'content' that perpetuates this nonsense (see also a recently rained off football match)?

The Americans have used the "envelope rule" once & Europe twice.
I agree that ti should go as it's open to abuse, but Bradley moaning about it after losing smacks of sour grapes.

Why dont they boyh dimply have a named substitute?.... cant be that difficult to include an extra team member.... even make it a young player for experience with an age limit. Really cant see the problem with all the money sloshing around in golf nowadays?

Sounds sensible to me, both squads to have a 13th man who steps in if there's an injury. Good experience for that player and avoids the envelope rule. Europe won on merit despite the gutsy US fightback, and the margin of victory was sufficient to not really make it a deciding factor so don't really have much sympathy for the US team on this occasion, but I do for Harris English having to sit out his singles through something totally unavoidable.

A more fun way might be to call someone up from the crowd. Would love to see some guy off 3 having the round of his life and binning a 30ft putt on the 18th to win the Ryder Cup.
