Pre "Old Farm" derby comments from north of the border 09:36 - Oct 2 with 1778 viewsCafe_Newman

Over at the Pinkun following the defeat last night at home against WBA, there were a few interesting comments from the more balanced, less reactionary fans worth sharing.

"I thought it was clearly our best performance this season, which I know isn't saying much, but at least we made their goalie pull off three excellent saves. It was a lot better than the disaster that was Wrexham and the other home performances against Millwall & Boro. In all of these games losing by only a single goal totally flattered us. Add in the fact that we should have been slaughtered at Coventry and soundly beaten at Stoke, plus there was more than a touch of fortune about the win at Portsmouth, and we could now easily be in the bottom three.

"I'm not saying it was a good performance. But if we had been playing well so far this season, I think many people would have seen that as an unlucky defeat. But after the first seven games Manning had no credit in the bank, nor did he deserve any. I think he has to go. We have the smell of defeat about us."

- Having watched the match myself, I think that's a fair description of their play yesterday.

"The problem for me was more around the context of that match and how it should've been a 'must win', or at the very least a 'not lose', and yet we were so toothless for most of it."

- Fair comment, they woke up in the last quarter of the match.

"There is the fight aspect, but also in a Derby you need that flash of arrogance or skill, a la Rowe, or the one who can’t be mentioned, and who is going to deliver? Only one man comes to mind, but he has slightly plateaued in recent games."

- "The one who can't be mentioned". Bless 'em. LOL.

And finally, the best comment on the 15-page match thread - and quite possibly the most concerning:

"We've done a good job of quietening the home crowd so far."

Is that a Town fan behind the old gin soak that’s snuck in the directors box & about to deliver a telling blow?

Well, he or she appears to have two legs, so the chances are it probably is.

Having watched last night, I'd be slightly wary of Norwich on Sunday on 11:41 - Oct 2 with 1285 viewsunstableblue

The game against WBA lacked energy and impetus from the home side for large periods. And the home crowd were flat and uninspired, with many empty seats,

But what I did see was some good quality players on the Norwich side, who are technically good. And when they ramped up in the last quarter with some decent attacking threat.

Why I'd be wary is that if the high emotion and rabid atmosphere of the derby does motivate and bring energy to the Norwich players - as Manning is hoping for, and why he suggest a derby is a good game for them - I think they will be one of the tougher opponents we have faced. And they have goals away from home in Sargeant.

I do think Matusiwa and Cajuste (the latter rested) can dominate that midfield. And Philogene and Davis can have joy.

Bring it on.

Norwich did look quite lively initially and played better stuff than they were playing under Wagner

They looked reasonably athletic and pacey which might be why they have had more effect away from home

Alcohol is the answer but I can't remember the question!

Having watched their away match against Coventry, Norwich offered nothing at all after they went ahead after quarter of an hour until the 96th minute when Coventry equalised. Nothing that is apart from dull, obdurate defending - not even much of a goal threat from a quick break.

In fact they employed the same frustrating form of anti-football that many of their fans have been critical of when talking about WBA yesterday.

In the EDP Manning is 'pledging attacking focus' - if true, that plays into our hands but my guess is they'll go ultra defensive and waste time etc like they did at Coventry,
Despite the idea that the derby is a leveller, when they've been the top team we couldn't win - about time we turned up and smashed 'em

They are unbeaten away from home but watching their game last night we should thrash them.

They have 4/5 out injured, no better time
