Really delighted with the derby day win and glad to finally get one over them. I still think we are a very long way off our potential. We still look fairly disjointed for long parts, but there are signs of progress.
Szmodics has still not scored for us at Portman Road, which is incredible. Once he gets one he will get many I believe and yet we still have Akpom to unleash when we feel it is right. He has been unfortunate not to score on a couple of occasions.
Anyway, as I said I still think we have a lot of improving to do and once it finally clicks I think we can beat the 8 goals we put past avenir beggin back in the day. Perhaps we might even hit double figures. I'd love to see that. [Post edited 7 Oct 10:16]

The curious case of Sammie Szmodics. From what I saw of him for Blackburn he played in the style of a second striker and was getting in behind and through on goal a lot. Much like how he pounced on the mistake to score his goal against Man City. We're not seeing that side of him as much now - he seems to be playing a bit deeper and fulfilling more of a support role imo. The Sammie of old would have been on the end of that Hirst shot/cross on Sunday that went right across the edge of the 6 yard box. |  |

Coventry have got an unbelievable XG rating of +20 for the season, we are second on +6.5 and third place is only about +3.5.

But I'm happy to see KM protect a few key players and make subs or take our foot off the pedal, if we should play well and be 4 or more goals to the good..

Szmodics is playing an important role, imo.. And there are encouraging signs of an understanding being built with Hirst, the way they've been almost swapping positions when Hirst drops deep and Szmodics sniffing for any knock downs or flick ons. Think it will start paying off soon for Szmodics.
He was also guiding Egeli a lot on Sunday, as some have pointed out.. And, as always, he looks like he'll run through brick walls for the team , fans and manager. I like him a lot. | | | |

He has been through on goal a fair bit I feel, e.g. Southampton but just isn't clinical right now unfortunately. To me his movement hasn't changed that much. | | | |

So if we were five nil up, it's happened before this season already, do you think McKenna would be happy with Palmer stepping up to take a penalty if we subsequently won one ? Would be the goalie's best chance of being amongst the season's scorers, would not matter so much if he missed with the three points in the bag and only Coventry likely to be a goal difference threat if finishing on equal points with another team...but it would rub the opponents noses in it if he scored. | |
