Is the correct answer, it was always a tenuous ‘deal’ at best. The IDF have continued attacks because there is never any consequence from the international community apart from some feeble condemnation. Hamas have also broken the ceasefire to kill any potential political rivals, they are more concerned with maintaining power than the welfare of Gazan’s (in fact a Hamas leader interviewed recently said the women and children of Gaza were a worthwhile sacrifice). |  | | |

According to Haaretz, J D Vance said at a press conference in Israel yesterday that the US will not decide for Israel which forces will be deployed in the Gaza Strip.
"We're not going to force anything on our Israeli friends," said Vance. He also stressed "there will be no American boots on the ground in Gaza."
With the release of the living hostages having taken the internal pressure off Netanyahu to some extent, it is difficult in my view to see the IDF under him giving up the roughly 50% of Gaza it currently occupies, which was in fact what it occupied before the recent advances into Gaza City. Certainly seems that way. Gaza aside, 100’000’s of civilians have been killed in the regional power struggle between Iran and Saudi, in Yemen and Syria, those conflicts will rumble on (in Syria the regime has already attacked minority groups). Unfortunately even in 2025 people are happy to engage in war over religion (I.e Shia and Sunni). | | | |
