I completely agree with their stance here, but wonder just how many of the clubs will continue trumpeting the cause should they get promoted to the Football League. The whole thing needs standardising, ideally. The four-up-four-down setup for L2 just seems out of place and, one assumes, is a hangover from the old D3 North/South days?

I think it is and they had the opportunity really, to amend that in 1995 when the structure was amended to allow the Premier League to reduce to 20 teams, allowing a clean 24-24-24 spread across the football league. [Post edited 15 Nov 14:51]

Am not so sure... Wasn't it the case that only the D3N and D3S champions were promoted and only the bottom two from D2 were relegated? [Post edited 15 Nov 14:55]

I can't think of a way to make it work, but it would be interesting to have an uneven system such as three-up-four-down. Utterly unworkable, but something like that might serve to make the PL more competitive, with at least one established team being guaranteed relegation each season.

Good luck getting that voted on!

Indeed! Utterly unworkable anyway, as there's not the movement out of the top end of the PL to rectify the bottom-end imbalance.
