Starting to have an impact: 7 set piece goals which is 25% of our total and 30% of our shots are now coming from set plays. [Post edited 26 Nov 2025 18:10]

We've had quite a bit of success with the ball to the back post where I think we're mainly looking for second phase rather than a direct goal. O'Shea and Greaves have both won lots of headers in that space. There's a good thread here on why players at the back post can find space against a zonal marking system: I think a lot of the set pieces where we end up asking "what on earth were they doing there" the defenders have just blocked effectively. The set piece taker has played the ball towards where they intend to but the runner hasn't been able to get free to make contact.

I think the job of a lot of the others will be as 'blockers' - we do try to get different players into the 'attacking the ball' role - Kipre and Greaves in particular who have both scored and come close on other occasions
