Pleased for him and hoping to see more of him in what looks like his proper role. Also interesting to see Sindre briefly moved inside to the 10 role at the end when Johnson came on for Nunez.

I’ve been quite surprised with KM playing him in a role that hasn’t been suiting him, which is then compounded by neither Hirst or Azon really getting going. I can’t fathom how KM’s had a blind spot there.

It really is a ploy from KM to have this hybrid 10/striker thing. But maybe he is conceding that it does not work so well. He has tried it successively with the Chaplin/Broady combo, which was successful (maybe as they operated as a pair and individually had more nous for the role) now with more overt strikers like Sammy and Akpom and it clearly hasn't worked. What we need is the magic formula that made Akpom And Sammy each have such a successful single season. For whatever reason we cannot get them to repeat it.

I think Sammy might have more joy running off Akpom who has more of a frame to hold up and release it in behind. Szmodics thrived from off the shoulder runs at Blackburn.

I'd love to see Chappers playing with either Akpom or Egeli ("the Eagle"?) :)

Problem being that Akpom likes to make these very same runs, it is his natural game. Sammy and him have very similar profiles. Whether he would be happy to adjust to the Hirst role longer term, I do not know; I am sure he is capable of doing it.

If you look at Szmodics chance against Southampton when he was unlucky and hit the post that’s really his game, rather than a Chaplin type 10. That was from good hold up play and being released by Hirst. I think he could get bags of goals in this league but not sure he truly fits how we play which is a shame. If teams didn’t sit in against us this kind of chance would be on loads. Still think he (Sammy) has a big role to play in the season, especially in more open games. He’d thrive if a bit more chaos. Southampton’s possession has dropped under their new coach and they’ve started scoring loads.

And scored a perfect sniffers goal to boot. And having the replay, he wasn't offside as their player was late off the post.
| Was interesting to see Akpom coming on for Hirst on 15:07 - Nov 26 with 1005 views | surreyblue | I found it more interesting the other way - Akpom rather than Azon coming on for Hirst. I had to double check that Azon was on the bench and I don't think he has a knock or anything? KM spotting something tactically or Azon with a bad couple of days in training (or struggling after starting on Saturday?) | | | |

I think, to be honest, Akpom may just be a better striker than Azon (or at least a more experienced one with a more impressive pedigree).

Seen nothing to suggest that so far.
