I can't believe you think that's our only problem. We were pitiful at Blackburn, for example, creating next to nothing. Of course, we've put in some very good performances as well.

| Our main rival for 2nd place.. on 17:40 - Dec 9 by homer_123 | The situation at Coventry is interesting. Next door neighbour but one is a Sky Blue and, therefore, we talk football and we both spend a bit of time watching each others teams. Whilst Coventry have gone off like a steam train. Recent performances have seen this ship a lot of goals, often conceding first but getting themselves back into matches. I've felt they were due a loss and we were due a performance - the two coincided at the weekend. What's interesting speaking to my Sky Blue neighbour is that many Cov fans are critical of Lampard. Lampard has set them out as a really attacking team but many fans feel he leaves them wide open to a counter attack or open to any team with a half decent attacking group. A lot of talk about them being 'found out' of late - which does coincide with injury and availability issues but that speaks to a wider problem at Cov - squad depth and rotation (or lack thereof). I'll call it now. They won't get automatic promotion and I would not be at all surprised is Lampard is out of job if they don't get promotion. |
They've built up a bloody great lead though. I think that is a harsh summary of them to be honest. They've won 11 of their last 14 games and they score loads of goals even if they have been conceding a few. They remind me of us in 23/24 - good patterns of play and capable of blowing teams away at home. Can't see them maintaining current pace but can't see them capitulating completely either. Even if they revert to play-off form they are going to end up somewhere between 85-90 points which I think is going to be enough for top 2 this season. [Post edited 10 Dec 14:33]

If you look at the most damning stat there is, over all games, rather than focusing on a single game, then yes, there is a single problem that stands out. Our conversion of big chances is pitiful (we're one off the most big chances created and TOP of the big chances missed). We should be converting the majority of our big chances. In some games it's 0% - and when there were enough big chances to win the games. Highlighting one game that was terrible (and yes, I know it's not the only one) does not provide a bigger picture assessment. If we were better at converting our big chances, we'd have converted games into more points without a shadow of a doubt. If we continue to create big chances at the same rate between now and the end of the season, and start converting the majority of them, we will finish top 2 - probably top.

A I've said on another post. It reminds me of Watford in 2007-08, winning lots of games, top of the league at Christmas with a small points gap. A lot of fans (inc Town fans) were saying then, it's going to be Watford and 1 other for the autos. But Watford picked up a few injuries, form went out of the window, they even dropped out of the top 6 and then sneaked back into 6th on the last game of the season.

Agreed and they could have easily been 2 goals up in first 30 mins on Saturday.

If I could make one addition to the squad in January, it would be another striker. And I'm happy to bin Akpom.
