I've held off for now as all the reviews and comments seem to be pretty negative.

I was born underwater, I dried out in the sun. I started humping volcanoes baby, when I was too young.

Won the Champions League with Ipswich on it which I don’t think I’ve ever managed on any FM game ever before.

On release it was a 3/10 but now I'd give it a 5.75/10

Was terrible out of the gate and there are still bugs there and annoying things and the interface could be improved, but it's actually playable now and a lot of the most annoying things have gone, even if there is still a long way to go before it's as polished as previous versions.

Norwich seem very overpowered though, they were in the top two all season and first for the vast majority of it. We hovered around 6th/7th outsides of the play-off's until mid February often playing well but having a stinker every 4 games or so where we lost that prevented us from getting higher.

What changed it for me was adding signings in the January transfer window (Rajkovic as keeper on a free, Malacia from Man Utd for £2m as cover for Leif at left back and Max Kilman from West Ham for £9m as backup Centre back to Greaves/O;Shea and once they embedded in we went from having one dodgy game every 4 games to having only three defeats in second half of season, made a late run for the title and beat West Brom by a single point, who knocked Norwich down into 3rd who had been in the top two ALL season.

4-2-3-1 was the way to go for me. Walton (Rajkovic after signed), Johnson (Clarke was good off bench) Greaves, O'Shea, Davis, Azor, Jens, Walle Egeli, Akpom, Jayden, Hirst. Jack Clarke good impact sub off bench.

Used to enjoy playing 23 and 24 Touch (not mobile) on my phone, but 26 Touch was literally unplayable when I tried. So many bugs and UI glitches that I couldn’t even get through the pre season before packing it in. Hope they can get it fixed so I can try again some time as I really did enjoy the previous versions.

I can give you a verdict: It is absolutely terrible, but it's still quite addictive throughout the first season.

I played 38 games with Ipswich when the beta came out before release, and I got promoted easily, with Norwich in 2nd. Once promoted, I refunded the game. The only improvements are the in and out of possession tactic additions, and the UI no longer automatically maneuvering itself out of the box.
The UI in FM has never been good, but if any other company, other than EA, released UI & UX like this, they would be laughed out of the door. It is atrocious.
It now requires more clicks to get to where you need to go. How they did not see this as a regressive change is beyond me.

Sure, graphics may have been updated, but they are still very outdated, and the actual match engine is still bad.

They have tried to make a tablet and portal out of a management simulation game, but managers aren't stuck to their portals in real life. McKenna isn't managing his entire setup through a tablet. The club don't hire and fire staff only through a tablet. Changing the UI this much was so unnecessary.

It's not worth opening the training menu up anymore, it is the least user-friendly thing I have ever seen in my life of gaming.

Hiring and releasing staff has never been harder, it's now a proper slog to do. I still do it because it's probably one of the most important things to do in the game, but it takes about 30 minutes longer now, at least when using an Ipswich save.
Hiring and releasing staff isn't exactly realistic, though. There really needs to be an option to not be able to see staff attributes, and have a list of options that you 'had scouted' before you joined a club instead, and hire based on your preferred tactic. I don't know how they would go about this, though.

Anyway, I recently rebought the game, finished the season with 115 points and 121 goals, and Norwich finished 2nd. Coventry went up through the playoffs I believe.

I have restarted a new Ipswich save. I've already won the first 4 games pretty comfortably, so I'm already doing better than the last save.
We have the best squad in the league in the game. Our team has been massively overrated yet again, I don't know who our FM scout is, but they need to stop consistently overrating our team.

Great review, thanks. So fundamentally they have killed the game’s strength in its engine and improved the the graphics which nobody really cares about? 😞

Similar to Jake, I also managed to fluke my way to a CL victory. Seems the match engine is basically the same, where pace is overpowered and gegenpress still works basically out the box.

I also ended up signing Malacia, the rotation worked pretty well for me.

Now comfortably sat a few seasons in the Prem hovering around the 4th to 8th range.

I've foudn this year that selling players is really annoying. They say they want to go but then reject every single contract offer from other clubs unless it's a Saudi one.

I've always loved FM games but I've not had a version for a few years. One thing I (and most I think) have always enjoyed is when its really challenging and realistic. How can Ipswich win a Champions League? Unless its way into the future that just sounds dreadful IMO.

Essentially, yes; but it's still barely playable.
FM has never really felt that immersive, but our curiosity about what is happening across the rest of the world has almost entirely diminished. That sucks. That was one of FM's best appeals in the franchise.

In my new save, I have just won my first 9 games. I've also won 3 Carabao Cup games, so 12 wins in a row, one of them a 2-1 win against Aston Villa.
I then drew 1-1 with Middlesbrough, and should have won, but Cajuste missed 2 sitters by shooting soft and straight at the keeper inside the box, completely unmarked. Considering our season so far in real life, at least that is probably realistic lol

I'd wait until FM27, I only rebought it because I appreciate the Premier League licensing for when I plan to do the same with Ipswich as I want to with Barnsley, Walsall, Peterborough, and Morecambe.

FM is simply too easy, I absolutely agree.
However, it's very hard to simulate real life football and its events. I would love for it to be more challenging but I don't know how they would do that. The scouts for each club would need to provide actual, realistic ratings for a start. Afterwards, I have no idea.
