| Unusual or Not on 14:01 - Dec 31 with 542 views | Plums | I can recall my dad and I going to watch Cambridge at home v Tranmere one morning and then on to PR to see Town in the afternoon. It may have been a Boxing Day or New Year's Day fixture - probably in the early 90's. No idea whether Colchester were also at home. Edit: it seems it was Boxing Day 1990 and Town lost 1-0 to Middlesbrough in the afternoon in front of 12k people. TWTD... Colchester drew 0-0 at home to Barnet [Post edited 31 Dec 2025 14:07]

12,508. I was at the game but can’t remember anything about it. No surprise really. 12k wasn’t too bad a crowd for us in those days. 10k, 11k was more normal, with the odd exception such as West Ham or Newcastle. Crowds in general were much smaller in those days. I notice Newcastle’s crowd against us was only 17,600.

No membership or obsession about points needed in those days. What joy there was to be had watching David Hill and Andy Bernal strutting their stuff in the midwinter mud.

I think I had season "ticket" for Churchmans by then, in practice a book of tokens with match numbers printed but most who attended didn't .Away games with very few exceptions we just turned up on the day and paid cash on the gate. Police would be in attendance but no cordons with private security waving metal detectors about so entry was smooth. Following Town was simpler then, like the football
| Veni Vidi Participatur. Now we can get back to competing. |
