How different would things have been if we had lost this game?...

The most devastating and damaging win in our history.

Thanks for posting the link. Enjoyed watching that.

Very different times - third round of the cup, both teams at full strength and a packed ground.

No chance of either manager considering fielding a weakened team.

I think that at the time we believed that the win was a major psychological advantage in the title race…..

Thanks for posting. I felt quite emotional watching it. I suppose the fact that we beat them three times that season and they won the league still haunts Town fans of that era. It probably would have helped our cause to not have an FA Cup run but I remember it was a wonderful match to have been at. I was in Churchmans.

Lovely - proper football with proper men!

What I noticed most was the total lack of pushing, shoving and grappling in the box at corners.

Poll: Right now, who would you rather have as Prime Minister?

Villa had it easy. No injuries. No euro. No FA Cup.

Totally agree with all of that.

The one major regret of my 55 years supporting Town is not winning the league in 1981. Totally down to fixture congestion and lack of depth in the squad.

Villa used 14 players for the whole season......14 players in 42 league games!!!

But yes, it was a tremendous match and I can't believe anyone left the ground that day a bit concerned about how it would impact us a few months ahead.
