That's a big shame for him. If he can get fit, he would be immense at this level. Presumably he won't be registered in any squad so would that mean he would be able to be loaned outside a transfer window if he did get fit? I would presume the loan system doesn't allow that.

it’s over a year since he played. His goals/appearances were drifting away a couple of seasons before that, sadly suffered a smashed his leg, is now 34 years old beyond the fag end of his career and was injured in training, not even in a competitive match. Often the way with recovering players.

I can see why for him any contract would be a juicy bonus to top up that pension (say for example £10k per week for 25 weeks - isn’t a bad little payout for shining that treatment table), but it’s a real McCarthy style, desperate punt Ellington-esq kind of signing and I’d hope we were always going to try harder than that.
