Yep, I wondered why a, rather street dressed, Mark Chapman suddenly was anchoring the show after I had fast forwarded following a couple of games and stats. Now we now. Yorath was somewhat in the Bremner mould but with a bit more physical presence, can't pretend to say I liked his Leeds times but there is no denying he was a good footballer and he clearly did right by his kids. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/fo

The BBC article mentions that he was player-coach of Bradford on the day of the Valley Parade fire in 1985 . The Guardian equivalent article adds the detail that he helped evacuate some supporters from a bar in the ground and injured himself jumping out of a window to safety. RIP

Seem to recall him scoring the first goal in 73/74 in a 3-0 win for dirty Leeds at PR. They were a very good team then but I still hated them.

I remember that game. They wiped the floor with us and we weren’t the worst side ever (finished 4th). Leeds won the league that season. Like everyone, I hated dirty Leeds and didn’t like Yorath given he was one of the cadre of animals that played for them. But he was a good player and they were a good team. He played in the four game FA Cup 6th Round marathon in 1975. I didn’t realise he was player coach at the time of the Valley Parade fire. That was something to have live with. Reading the obituaries to him he was clearly respected and loved not least by his family RIP Mr Yorath

His son Daniel died suddenly aged 15 whilst they were playing football together in the garden. He had to put up with more grief than many will thankfully ever have to. Sad news.

| Terry Yorath RIP on 22:01 - Jan 8 with 195 views | football | That's sad. Met him when I dealt with his planning application - well he waved from a distance - but didn't like me next time we met as I told him I was refusing his application. These deaths and sicknesses are beginning to make me feel really old | | | |
