Brrr. It's cold 08:51 - Jan 24 with 346 viewsDJR

Before I was born, my parents lived in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan.

In January, the average maximum temperature is -11 degrees Celsius and the average minimum temperature is -20. Indeed, it was so cold when my parents were there that the dead weren't buried in the winter.

It currently -36.4 according to the Canadian weather service and there is an amber cold warning for wind chill temperatures of -40 to -45 for the next few days.

Incidentally, the record low is -55, with a record wind chill of -59.7.

No wonder they moved to Victoria.

You’ve got to be a hard b’stard to live there!

I’ve been in Breckenridge Colorado at -30 with windchill and that was ridiculous. You could feel your body working hard just walking from place to place in the little town. On the mountain, it was plain treacherous with a yellow, frosted light. Any exposed skin, say goodbye to it.

More recently, in Finland we were skiing at -22 in still air. Despite all the gear (and no idea) there was a limit in how long I could stay out in that without a warm up - about 2 hours. God, it was cold and again, just mooching around was tough.

So -36.4 to -45? Errrr, turn the heating up!!!

I suspect that’s why you were born . They weren’t going to be out doing the gardening in temps like that.

We had a long spell in Maine and Quebec once of -15 (C) being the highest daytime temp. It lasted for about 6 weeks and dipped to -25. I can’t imagine how -55 must feel.

Poll: Do you think Pert is key to all of this?

Sure is, we’ve got 30deg here this afternoon, the main difference being it’s a + not a minus, at least the Mauritian beer is cold ( only for 5 minutes though) & factor 50 is the dress code!
