Who genuinely thinks this silly tune is a good idea?
Sure it has it’s place, I wouldn’t want it banned, but it’s hardly an intimidating, partisan, and rousing club anthem is it!! It sounds more like a cocky knees-up with Chas’n’Dave. I genuinely cringe every time I hear it or see people trying to “sing” it.

I think it has it's place. I'm not convinced it is best served as the crowd 'gee-up' at the start though. The original version is played over the speakers and it's a bit 'music hall'. Now, sang in an away pub by 20 or 30 or so blokes, I thought it sounded good, and it's ours.

I love it but then again I have a soft spot for any old anthems that are used (even when I hear other clubs using theirs). It's just a nice nod to tradition and history that reflects well on a club imo. In an era where some historic grounds are renamed after corporate entities etc., I like to hear an oldie that fans from generations before us, with the same love of our Club, also enjoyed. It's a bit of fun too.
There is always room for more Town songs in the future and ones we can all sing along to (maybe Ed Sheeran will pen a Town classic for us someday) but I hope this old gem still gets an airing sometime on match days. | | | |
