We already have those players and are looking for somebody who is a step above what we already have. That’s not so easy.

| If they can...why can't we? on 07:42 - Feb 2 by RetroBlue | I was just wondering how our expenditure compares with say Coventry, Boror, Hull, Wrexham and Millwall in that top six. I dont get the impression they have spent anywhere near the amount we have. The net spend figure will surely be skewed by the two sales of Delap and Hutchinson, of a combined £60 +mins which i doubt any of the current top six would match. |
Wrexham at £37m have spent the most (actually about £30m more than it cost us for the L1/Championship team which illustrates transfer inflation and that it’s an inexact science. Coventry are net neutral but have built that team overtime. Another factor to take into account is what the players bought are worth if moved on. For example, Matusiwa and Nunez cost £20m. Are they worth that? Of course. McAteer? Questionable, but he may come good. Swings and roundabouts. And don’t forget JP looked like money down the drain to many this time last year. One genius even at the start of December wanted rid of him and Clarke at any price even if it meant a loss. Birmingham, newly promoted, paid out over net £20m in the summer. Did we in 23/4? No, because it didn’t fit with our finance model. Birmingham cannot overpay because it has unlimited wealth. Same as PL clubs. The rules differ between clubs and there is no right and wrong.

You can't have it both ways. You can't criticise the club for spending big on some (but not all) players, yet seemingly want to ignore the income from player sales that we received to off-set that spend.

Where am I criticising? I just trying to have a discussion and ask questions about it.. IF success is measured by expenditure then my question is how do we fair compared to the current top 6 . That's not a criticism its an inquiry.

I mean, we wouldnt overpay for players would we.
