Worst case if we don’t go up what will the team look like next season?
Will we spend or sell possibly someone like Philogene? Keeping Matusiwa is a must either way!

Unknown world! Would Ashton and co even have had back, back burner contingency plans, apart from whatever contractual caveats may have already been written in?

Who might be in a hurry and sufficiently good enough to ensure their playing years aren't swallowed up playing Oxford away? - Davis, Matusiwa, Clarke, Philogene and who else?

I presume the loanees would be gone, and probably McKenna.

I doubt we'll be visiting Oxford again next year whatever (thank goodness)

Lincoln maybe.

We'll lose the players with high values where a premier league or relegated parachute team makes a bid. Otherwise we're probably stuck with most given lucrative contracts (by championship standards) running till 2027 at least.

I wonder about KM next season whichever way. I'd we don't go up then he m8ght feel the time is right, and if we do, his stock will rise. Does another season of struggle in the PL help him?

Whatever, we'd still be strong next season, but this year would be a real missed opportunity if we were to miss out.

I suspect we might struggle to keep hold of Matusiwa if we don't go up as he just seems to get better and better.

I would also think at least one of Clarke & Philogene would leave as I can't see them being happy to share game time again for another season in the Champ..

But let's hope it doesn't come to that.

We would lose Matusiwa and almost definitely Philogene, and potentially Clarke. Other than that, i think the team would actually look quite stable.

Unlikely we'd sell any of the key players to a relegated side if we're still in the Championship next season.

I'm less sure that the side will look stable going into next season

You say we are likely to lose Matusiwa and Jadon possibly Clarke

Firstly, that would be a disaster given the fact vast majority of our goal output is combined between Jadon and Clarke, the 10's and RW so far has not shown any consistency in terms of adding to the goal output

In addition, we'll most likely lost all the loanees if we don't go up, I'd love to keep Kipre and Neil I think will turn out to be a decent signing but that is Akpom, Azon, Cajuste also going

If we assume that Neil and Kipre both move on then that is already half the team, we'll pretty much have to add to our CM as that would mean Matusiwa and Cajuste/Neil gone so would leave us with super Jack Taylor in Midfield

In attack we would be left with Hirst as the only senior Striker

Who knows what Mckenna will do

Absolutely no way Matusiwa goes.

No Prem club would take him, his passing is nowhere near the level they'd want. He'll sign a new contract and be our main man again.

Philogene the only departure in my opinion. And he's relatively easily replaced.

We'd face tougher competition but be in a better place than this season.

Whilst moving between divisions inevitably brings a bigger turnover and hence a lack of stability, I would hope that we are relatively stable if we stay in the Champ.

What would be really unfortunate would be to make too many changes, especially too late in the summer window, and then have the same old excuses for the first half dozen matches about player turnover, gelling, not having a pre-season together etc etc. Thoroughly depressing when that happens. There is a lot to be said for stability. And stability I think is going to entail not constantly buying more and more wingers and no10s and throwing them all up in the air.

A couple of big tickets probably go I reckon. 2 of O'Shea, Davis, Philogene, Clarke potentially depending on interest and fees if there's decent money on the table. Some big earners if not big tickets will go as well, namely Szmodics, Johnson, Young. I'd imagine Young goes regardless and hangs up his boots.

Kipre, Cajuste, Akpom, Azon probably don't join. Neil might I guess, depending on how the next few months works out for him.

Just out of interest, how many of the 5 loanees would you like us to sign permanently to ensure we look a more stable side?
