FA Cup nostalgia 16:50 - Feb 10 with 271 viewsZx1988

I was having a hunt in my box of ticket stubs this afternoon, and came across this:

I remember getting it in a carrier bag full of old football memorabilia from my Grandfather many years ago - some FA Cup final programmes, old Ipswich programmes, some Texaco/Esso collectibles, all that sort of thing.

Halcyon days, eh? Back when the FA Cup final had a real sense of occasion to it.

You ain't a beauty but, hey, you're alright.

Arthur Caiger, the "Man in the White Suit" was still leading the community singing. He certainly realised the writing was on the wall for this stuff, hanging up his whit suit in 1962. The FA tried to keep this tradition going, later using celebrities like Frankie Vaughan & Tommy Steele, who were largely ignored by the crowd in the 1970s & no it's just down to a rendition of "Abide With Me".

Bruce Forsyth in 74'! Town used to sell all sorts of programmes under the west stand in the 70's. As a kid, for some reason, I bought the 1954 Final programme. Fast forward 30 years, on ebay I got 75 quid for it!

That's right, I had completely forgotten about that.

There was also a little shop under Chuchman's that sold various programmes. I spent any spare paper round money there after I had paid my bus fare, entrance fee and match programme.
