Economics isn't the only measure of progress. I am genuinely interested in knowing backwaywhen's reason for saying it is regressing and how immigrants are causing it. I look forward to getting to their response as I catch up on this thread now.
EDIT: I have caught up with the rest of the thread now and still can't see backwaywhen's answer to my questions. Surely that can't be right. I am sure they will be along shortly to explain what they mean by "illegals", why they equate Ratcliffe's comments on immigrants colonising the UK with "illegals" and what they think is causing the UK to regress. Indeed. That poster's observations do make you wonder why is it that public service professionals are all left wing (they actually aren't but proportionally are more so than others)? Why is it that the views of bankers, etc are much more valid?
And right wing people are more than welcome to post on here. I just can't understand why very few of them seem able to engage in any meaningful discussion supported with facts about why they hold the views they do on immigration. | |

At risk of going of piste, however, by the ONS own statistics the population grew faster than the economy, so technically it was an economic contraction on a per capita basis (a much more valid measure used by economists but not politicians). Appreciate not really relevant to the thread - just get annoyed at the government’s handpicking of data.
