Our "supporters" on social media - scum 17:42 - Feb 14 with 8355 viewswaveneyblue

So today, ive witnessed.

An Ipswich "fan" who's gone to the considerable effort to make a montage of George Hirst missing chances/penalties

An Ipswich "fan" joining in with a Norwich fan's post, criticising our signings.

Not to mention the pages that actively put a negative spin on absolutely everything Ipswich Town whilst claiming to be a long term "fan"

Maybe im old or a "Happy Clapper" but I find this behaviour utterly bizarre and really sad.

Who can I invoice for the 10 minutes of my life I’ve just wasted reading this absolute nonsense?

I thought the whole point of this board was that we all supported the same club? I’d have hated to be in the trenches next to some of you lot if this is what fighting for the same side looks like.

I geniunely apologise that others have to read this drivel.

Saying that, this place has always been really divided, so not sure why it comes as a surprise. Most of the long threads are two sides going at each other, whether its football, politics, current affairs or cake.

Calling fellow fans scum because they don’t think everything is rosy is a bit much, isn’t it?

There is a difference between abuse and opinion. If someone’s crossing the line personally, fair enough, that’s bang out of order. But pointing out missed chances, questioning signings, or saying performances haven’t been good enough isn’t being scum, it’s football. It’s opinions. It’s what fans do and not everyone has to buy into the constant everything’s perfect narrative to be a proper supporter. Some of us just call it how we see it. That doesn’t make us lesser fans, it just means we see the game differently.

Also, let’s be honest, on here there’s a bit of an echo chamber (see upvotes of your OP)..Same names agreeing, same moral high ground taken.

I’ve read plenty of your posts on here and 'X'. You present yourself as balanced and fair, but they’re often just as divisive as the people you criticise. So, you can’t position yourself as the voice of reason while branding anyone who disagrees with you as scum.

We all want Town to do well. We just don’t all express it the same way.

The stuff I was referencing at the start is absolute scummy behaviour.

Clearly its not a few people in the "echo chamber" that agree as well.

Don't go changing the context of what I posted to fit your own personal narrative, theres a good chap.

I’m not changing the context at all. Your OP was titled that our supporters on social media are scum. That’s a broad swipe, that people will react to (like I have).

For some reason you believe you get to decide where the line sits for everyone else and then label those outside it as scum. Football is opinions, frustration and debate. Not liking the tone or approach doesn’t make someone scum or morally beneath you.

'There’s a good chap' bit just proves my point, Johners. Very patronising.

The post I made SPECIFICALLY referred to things I witnessed. Its in writing at the start of this thread.

Stop making things up, I also appreciate the attempts of "outing" me, very clever.

I dont know who you are, but I would put money on you being one of the regulars on X who love to knock the club at every opportunity.

No one’s making anything up. You might feel it was specific, but the title and wording were broad. That’s why I reacted. It wasn’t twisted, it was interpreted.

As for outing you, don’t flatter yourself. It's hardly investigative journalism.

The last bit sums it up...You don’t know me. I back the club plenty. I just don’t think disagreement (with you) equals disloyalty.

Have a great day.

I guess you are one of those people who only reads the headline rather than the story.

Theres been a couple of prople obsessed with sharing who I am on X and Facebook, I guess you are one of those. I liken it to the excitement of finding out your teachers first name at primary school.

You have a smashing day too

I barely ever manage to make it to Portman Road, there's definitely more loyal and passionate fans than me on this forum, if i'm being honest.

I remember having not been to PR earlier in the season, arguing with, I think, a Charlton fan who said PR was the worst atmosphere he'd experienced in the Champs by a mile. I disagreed but then went to a home game a couple weeks later and couldn't believe how passive the support was and then as soon as things got difficult how negative it became.

A bit better away according to mates but we're often seen online as one of the worst in terms of vocal support as away fans too according to other clubs fans.

Not really what we typically stand for and I don't know if it's just ridiculously high expectations or the style of football lacking a bit of excitement

"Charlton fan who said PR was the worst atmosphere he'd experienced in the Champs by a mile"

He obviously haven't been to Blackburn, PNE, Stoke and Leicester, amongst many clubs. Even Charlton's home support isn't that fantastic ffs, I have been to The Valley a couple of times.

"Not really what we typically stand for and I don't know if it's just ridiculously high expectations or the style of football lacking a bit of excitement"

Probably both. I don't think we have generally poor support but the atmosphere by our fans especially at PR is really dependent on the on-pitch performance compared to supporters of other clubs many of which can chant and sing from the 1st to the 90th minute. If we're winning or the underdog the atmosphere is generally very good. Even last season in the PL it was very good when we are losing because most supporters viewed the PL as a free hit. This season however, increased expectations (whether it is because of the £££ spent or being a parachute club) and the new McKenna ball of slow tippy tappy with little or no room for improvisation and innovation (I have watched matches with neutrals who have often commented on how boring our style of play is) have more or less dampened the atmosphere at home and (to a lesser extent) away

Most Social Media accounts come out of bot farms put together by AI to harvest clicks and build algorithms. Some are just dopey twonks hoping to get dopamine hits from clicks.
