I've had worsening shoulder pain for the last year or so. A recent MRI showed significant wear and tear of the joint, as well as a tear in the cartilage. I've had treatment and training from chiropractor and physio, without success. Cortisone injection eased the pain but only temporarily.
I'm now signed off work and been referred to orthopedics. Without surgery, it's unlikely I'll be fit to return to my current job. At 59, I don't know if surgery would even be beneficial until I've spoken with the surgeons.
Feeling a bit anxious about the future now. Just putting a jacket on is really painful and seems to be getting worse.
Anyone successfully had surgery?

This sounds like a different problem to the OP. Osteoarthritis is the thinning and deterioration of the bone and while steroid injections give a temporary respite the only real solution is a joint replacement. I know this from personal experience and have one knee replaced and am having the other one done this year. I'm 67 and think that I may have held out too long to get this done because I am quite restricted in my walking. To the OP, are you down for a shoulder joint replacement? MRI gives the best indication if it is necessary but even the xray indicated how bad my first knee was. [Post edited 18 Feb 14:35]

At the moment, the only info I have is from my GP after he received the MRI results. Degeneration and tearing of the cartilage, as well as something else that I didn't quite understand.
All I know is that the pain is severe under certain movements of the joint. | |
