Seems like it’s just not in this country where fans dislike it immensely.

Yet, according to the article, fans in Italy want to see more of VAR, not less i.e. for 2nd yellows and the like. Although, if we went down that route, how long before Shearer and co were loudly pointing out that, in the particular incident under spotlight that evening, it was the first yellow that was the debatable offence?

Meanwhile, back in the Championship, not having VAR can seem both a relief and a disappointment, according to how fortune falls for one's team. Certainly, the quest for infallible judgements seems to have turned out to have produced more controversy rather than less. It's even permeated our weekly, gentleman-like Walking Football arena where players regularly scream handball at contact that not so long ago would not have registered on anybody's radar.

Given that fans buy the tickets to football matches and pay the subscriptions to the TV channels, is anyone ever going to ask us if we want VAR? I think the vast majority of fans would vote to scrap it, I know I would. Isn't the game supposed to be for us?

Fans are not innocent in VAR being introduced. Countless years of abuse directed at the officials resulted in VSR being introduced.

Some fans.

I've always stood up for refs and hate VAR.

Poll: Would Lambert have acheived better results than Cook if given the same resources

The issue is everything is so tribal. The sport has forgotten about the neutral.

It's entertainment. VAR goes against that, it was always going to, it always has since being introduced, and always will. End of story.

Poll: Pick a goal to win the derby in stoppage time...

Agreed. Yes, refs will make some bad decisions, but that is what fans discuss later down the pub. VAR is slowing the game down and sucking the joy out of it, while at the same time still making plenty of bad decisions.

So the refs get more crap from fans and motd all we hear again is managers blaming refs for the rain and costing the game.

At least var gives the correct result every game with no excuses.

Mate , I never understand this argument of we must not have VAR otherwise we have nothing to discuss in pub after the game and that’s what footballs about.

Didn’t stop the conversations last season.
