| The Warky Championship Report 2025/26: Feeling let down by Town 10:19 - Feb 22 with 440 views | Warkystache | This isn't your normal Warky Report by the way. I thought I'd tell you how I'm feeling after yesterday and coming into the last lap of games before the end of the season. I'm a bit worried, to be fair. Yesterday was a defensive calamity. Wrexham are no great shakes but seemed to have more fight about them. Losing 5-3 isn't where we need to be at this stage. Given Leicester's woes and Southampton's slow rekindling, we're the only Parachute Payment side with a more than fair chance of automatic promotion. Yet we seem to self-sabotage whenever the chance presents itself. Injuries aside (and losing Philo and Nunez when we did hasn't helped), we've never really convinced. Coventry had their bad spell yet still came out Top 2, and, despite beating them twice, we've never found the consistency to challenge them. Appreciate it might happen within the next two months, especially as Boro now seem to be having a blip. I'm not convinced by the play-offs. Been there and done all that. Memories of late-1990's capitulations don't help. The scars remain. Even in 2000, against Barnsley, I was a nervous wreck pre-match. Nearly thirty years on, I'm not sure the old ticker could take a final against a resurgent Hull or Saints or even the Scum. The last one's unlikely, but this is a tight league. I can't help feeling we've somehow forsaken a really good opportunity this season. A chance to build a decent Championship team that only needs a few extras to compete in the Premier League. Do a Leeds. Build a fluid, young exciting side in the Championship and then add greater quality when we go up. Seeing the likes of Kieffer Moore and Broadhead score against us hurt. Seeing us pinned back and forced to desperately defend hurt as well. We should be better than that. I'm never totally convinced with a lot of these players. Those that came down have merely reiterated that we can't rely on them in the higher league. They don't seem to be much better in the Championship. I worry about McKenna. Call it a lack of a tangible Plan B or an overarching fear of defeat which stifles our attacking play sometimes, but we're asking a lot of players who perhaps can't give us what we need. Ivan Azon may turn into a twenty-a-season striker but he doesn't convince as anything more than an 'odd goal here and there and plenty of chasing' type. George Hirst is either hamstrung by injuries or hoping for his place in the Scotland World Cup squad as a perennial sub. The raw pace and power he showed in 2022/23 and 23/24 is negated to a hold-up and dispatch role that doesn't really suit him. Moore and Broadhead yesterday showed us what we miss. Yet we seem to have traded goals for possession. Watford away and Swansea at home won't be easy games. True, a month ago, they looked winnable but both seem to have turned a corner since new managers were appointed. Lose on Tuesday and that's another advantage dwindled. Am I worrying unnecessarily? Or do you all feel that nagging doubt as well? | |

| The Warky Championship Report 2025/26: Feeling let down by Town on 10:31 - Feb 22 with 356 views | Ace_High1 | Same overall, we are now most likely to finish in playoffs as not consistent enough to string a winning run together. How many days have we spent in the top 2 all season? If we are playoffs there is no way we will be resilient enough over 3 games, we will blow at least one game and get done 3-1 so I now expect us to stay down. That is a disaster given how poor the league is this year with all of the expected big teams being woeful. We will look back in 2 years and think what a missed chance when we end up mid table in this awful league with no parachute payments and no longer a fancied team. | | | |

I know the idea is to get out of this league, but I quite like the Championship. Of course it would be great if we finished top two but I can’t see it happening tbh. | |

| The Warky Championship Report 2025/26: Feeling let down by Town on 10:35 - Feb 22 with 327 views | FrimleyBlue | Its incredibly difficult to disect this season. Incredibly poor start which possibly had cost us auto spots. We've had a good enough season since that window closed to be top two.. but we are always chasing. Is that chase mentally to much for this squad to overcome. That seems to be an issue. Running towards advertisty. We seem to run away from it. We hear leadership group alot. You can have a 5 man leadership group but it depends who's in it.. the current one had a skipper who's been relegated most of life. A striker who's had the worse form of all this season. Potentially one who's never played at this level etc. One who's spent all his career in the Prem and not sure why he's here at all. Footballing wise... I just don't see how this side gets promoted. Its missing some key ingredients. Very rare do we get regular 8/10 performances from individual players. You may get a 6 then an 8 but then a 6 again. Our CMs. Right sided players have barely registered a goal. That's not normal But we still find ourselves in with a shot.. Honest answer I just don't know. I can't trust this squad to do it. | |
