It's absolutely brilliant we are top of the league. The lads have done fantastically well but you have to understand how the system works. We are still playing catch up but bringing in some good quality to massively improve our chances of getting them through the pathway into first team. But don't be fooled we have better young talent than Chelsea, Arsenal etc. Their top young players are out on loan playing in good sides. Runham, Fletcher etc weren't their best prospects but they are a good level and have a chance.
Just curious if you have watched much U21? I've watched a fair bit. Earlier in the season Humphreys really stood out for me. And we know he's good but equally he's not starting every week for Huddersfield though is getting good game time.
There are other like Mendel I rate but if you watch the u21s he really doesn't look like he would impact the first team if I'm being brutally honest.
Who is you are putting in and who are you taking out?
Honestly if you put Egeli in our u21s he would score buckets of goals. |  |

Sorry but just to add and more positively I think the youths are on a really good trajectory and the investments looks great. I reckon we will see more breakthrough probably from 12-24 months sort of time frame. | |

True. I think it's a fair question on why we haven't seen more come through the ranks and obviously we all want to see that. Some of which I covered above.
Another factor is McKenna has been fighting hard for promotion all but one season which was the prem (our u21s wasn't at the right level for that) and fighting relegation. It's probably a lot easier to bring through young players when not every defeat is jumped on by fans. Egeli is our best young talent and he's been getting fan stick or McKenna for playing him etc. So McKenna can't really win trying to bed kids I. At the minute even if they were close to ready. | |
