Assume it was to save face of him being pushed.

Wonder if the by-election defeat has meant Starmer wants to separate himself from these people now?

Based on his (Starmer’s) response to the by-election defeat, Mahmood doubling down on her discriminatory immigration plans and the largely meaningless statement about the Iran attacks, it looks like business as usual unfortunately.

I was in the camp of giving him time. But how many chances does he need? Increasingly, I’m coming round to the view that the only way they’ll get the reset needed is with new leadership and a change of culture.

It's what's known as a good time to bury bad news.

And whilst it is designed to, and will, take the heat out of the issue and avoid further scrutiny, Starmer and Labour Together have been joined at the hip since well before he stood for the leadership as the Labour Together candidate.

Yes going with the Greens are extremists angle is pathetic.
He could have shown some humility.
His political instincts are terrible

This from the Guardian.

“It was ridiculous to claim the Greens were extremists when their candidate appeared to be a normal and likable person. It made us look like even we didn’t believe what we were saying,” said one Labour MP, who disliked having to parrot attack lines about the Greens, pitching them as being as bad as Reform.

That did not stop Starmer repeating those same talking points that had proved ineffective about the Greens wanting to weaken Nato and drug laws. When he appeared on television mid-morning, his clip infuriated Labour MPs still further by seeming to be tone deaf.

One MP said Starmer “isn’t even close to getting it, unfortunately”, while another said No 10 had not quite grappled with “just how unpopular we are: our own people hate us”.
