Anyone else end up in the A12 carnage going south tonight? 23:55 - Feb 28 with 2411 viewsThe_Flashing_Smile

More than 3 hours before we got going, ended up home 4 hours later than I expected to. To top it off the battery died as a fire engine was trying to get through. Luckily the car behind me had jump leads!

Trust the process. Trust Phil.

Sorry to hear that. I must have missed the carnage, where was it? I had a tremendous journey, seemed less traffic than normal and got back to Reading by 7:30pm - one of the best ever journeys.

Poll: would you rather

I left Ipswich around 6.30 and got stuck between junction 24 and 23, around Feering/Tiptree at 7ish... so looks like you just missed it. They eventually got people off the A12 by sending them single-file the wrong way up a slip road. From stopping to leaving the A12 took about 3 and a half hours, with the stretch beyond that where the incident was still closed, so must've been pretty nasty.

Snap. Left town at 6.15 thought would be back home 7.15. Ended up being 11.20ish.

Would have been depressing had it not been a good performance and result earlier.

Any idea what caused it as thought the original incident was on other carriage as no traffic came other way for first few hours. But then the fire engine came back our way about 3 hours in shortly before they decided to divert us through Kelvedon.

Our SatNav took us off at the Tiptree turnoff. Had a bit of a detour, but eventually got back onto the A12, approx it added 10 mins to the journey- maybe just lucky

I was going on my way back to London on the A12 and was about 10 cars behind the incident. I was told that a drunk ran out in front of a vehicle travelling N bound. Air ambulance called plus at least two other ambulances thus both carriageways closed. Road closed for about 3 hours so got home at 10.15 instead about 7.15. Feel for the guy who hit the pedestrian. Must add the police and emergency services were excellent as was the patience shown by all the drivers and occupants of vehicles around me.

Amazing that can happen on a road like the A12, or any major road. I had a near miss in a similar incident about 10 years a go. Banging along a dual carriageway with one of those tiny hard shoulders and refuge areas near me and a bloke, clearly drunk, was staggering along the hard shoulder toward me.

As I approached he suddenly staggered out into my lane and fell over, luckily for me (and him) there was nothing in lane two and I swerved around him, and there was nothing behind me. As I passed he got back to the hard shoulder and carried on.

I stopped at the next refuge area and rang plod, they thundered past me about 10 minutes later obviously looking for him.

Don't know what caused it but saw on twitter that they closed off that section for the air ambulance to land.

That fire engine you mention was the one I was blocking as my car wouldn't restart - I just had to shrug and say sorry. Cars next to me were able to pull over more to let it through.

220 mile round trip. Yesterday’s performance was worth it even if the delay wasn’t. Certain ma ny others travel further.

80 miles each way from Kent - but it’s not really the same for me as we have my late parents’ house in Suffolk so I stop over there usually. My sister is there at the moment so we had something to eat at the Maybush at 7pm - so an all round good day.

I must have been next to you all the time.

As remember seeing that where you in the “fast” lane? If so you were 3 or 4 cars ahead of me.

The Swansea players were caught in it heading to Southend airport. In the end their plane left without them and they spent all night driving back and got home about 6am.

I was indeed. The car behind pulled alongside to jumpstart me.
