| Thoughts on Saturday's game 10:55 - Mar 23 with 557 views | SaleAway | Don't want to repeat a lot of what has already been said, in that we needed to make more of our dominance in the first half but actually, I was more disappointed in the way that we butchered numerous break out chances in the second half. Yes, Millwall pressed harder, and had more ball in the 2nd half, but they left themselves vulnerable, and when we broke, we broke in numbers, but invariably took the wrong option, or fluffed the final pass. We complain about our ability to beat teams that play the low block, but then we did everything right in the first half, and made them change shape and approach, and then failed to take advantage of a team that left us space. it feels like when we lose the ball in an attacking mode, we often get punished by teams on transition, but this team don't do it nearly enough, especially compared to the double promotion team. That ability to go quickly from turnover to a chance is where we really need improvement | |

| Thoughts on Saturday's game on 03:11 - Mar 24 with 264 views | davray9 | A very good post, with several observations that the manager was also keen to mention in his post match interview. Millwall changed their formation in the second half, putting two up front and also marking man for man. Essentially admitting that we were too skillful for them in the first half. Each outfield player battled with their opposite number, believing they were physically stronger in stature and could match our fitness levels. Consequently, this created several counter attacks which we didn't execute well. Can we work on these patterns of play, be more focussed on each player positionally, the runs they make on and off the ball and what pass creates a more clinical, calculated opportunity to score? Should any team decide to replicate Millwall's second half approach, we have to learn to pick those teams off with precision. Lets also try to cope better with, or disrupt/negate this change of tactics from the opposing team. Should we be smarter and use their physical approach to our advantage?... there probably could and should have been more cards brandished by the referee for instance. I don't like to see gamesmanship, but home crowds (like Blackburn or Stoke away for instance) do tend to influence/highlight these incidents to the referee...Do our players and home supporters need to be more vocal? The end result...Millwall took a big risk and gambled with a different approach to the second half and it worked well. They could have won the game, but left gaps for us to exploit and some good chances to increase/regain our lead. A mixture of positive play (first half) and things to be learned (second half), a close game with two very different styles of play... | | | |

Second half felt like we were the away team, maybe this explains to a degree why we don't win away much?

This is I think the irony. We as fans often complain that the team struggles against low blocks, which is mainly what we come up against at home, but actually, I think we tend to struggle more against a really good physical press, which is much more common away from home. I actually thought we dealt with the press well on Saturday, finding space to play through it on a number of occasions, it was on the transition that we made the mistakes with the wrong option or final ball, which was frustrating.

For me I absolutely agree Put us up against an aggressive team as per Sheff Utd etc , we really do struggle We're Ok with the low block . Some get confused with "we can't play against it" and the frustration of playing against it
