Ashton showed his true colours back on February 3rd/4th 00:32 - Mar 27 with 1967 viewsMaySixth

the tension between him and McKenna has been building for some time over recruitment - the line below was directly put out to the EADT/TWTD from Ashton, his ego was on display and he was protecthing himself if things went tits up.

Taken from Stuart Watson's EADT piece:

"It's understood that the scouting team, led by new head of recruitment Mick Court, put several possible targets to manager Kieran McKenna but that the Blues boss opted not to pursue many."

i.e It's all McKenna's fault if we dont't get up, I did what I could and put striker options up

Yeah, that was a really telling point and reflected badly on Ashton.

I wonder what was wrong with the substandard options and why those were the ones presented to McKenna.....

I think he showed them in December 2024 when backing Morsy to not fulfill his captain's duties to the wider club and community because of what I personally perceived as homophobia.

Precisely Morsy should have been sacked or minimum had the captaincy removed that day. Especially as some of the players were very upset about him refusing to wear the rainbow armband.
It was homophobic, and it was irrelevant about his religion. He was the club captain, representing the club, and Ashton let the club and community down then

But now the owners can at least show they aren't going to make that mistake.
I'm sure the owners are assessing everything and probably given where we are in the league/season using cools heads to make sure they can remove him but without impacting performances on the pitch.

Personally I don't have a problem with Sam morsy not doing the rainbow event it's Personal choice. I say live and let live but don't stick views down others throats.

It's not personal choice, he was the club captain. If he can't do the duties then he should have been relieved

I don't think the rainbow laces thing quite revolves around sticking anything down anybody's throat.

Oh FFS.
"I say live and let live but don't stick views down others throats."

that old patronising chestnut.

Mate, when i want to stick things down throats it most definitely will not be the throat of a homophobe.

Not exactly hindsight.

I first mentioned this on February 4th.

Here's the link for you.

Interesting 'insight' from the club: by MaySixth 4 Feb 20:45
Yes, will have come from Ashton.

Don't blame me if we don't go up.

Court is an Ashton man.

I think its all very speculative and reading too much into it , clearly the fact there's no game for a week means we got nothing else to talk about

It's not speculative at all, it's fact.

You are welcome to have an opinion. It's wrong by the way.

Again, the rainbow campaign was about saying gay people should feel welcome in football grounds, nothing more.

So someone should have asked Sam Morsy why he doesn't think gay people should feel safe in football grounds.

And then he should have been sacked.

Facts are Ashton had a meal with Farage , PR campaign that shouldn't of been accepted and ipswich made a silly statement which was not honest. Its not like Ashton has said himself this statement hes probably fuming at someone and himself because its damaged the trust but this has blown up way too much . In essence we need to get behind the club and Ashton needs to make a statement outlining what happened

I'm talikng about Ashton's line to the media that he wanted published in early February.

I will get behind the team after week - that will not change.

Telling Farage KM’s job will be available if we don’t go up, is a sacking offence alone - grossly unprofessional, and Nigel is hardly captain discretion.

Im obviously not his biggest fan these last 2 seasons, but even I’m shocked at the lack of basic governance, professionalism and competence.

It’s like the club was never a factor, and just a proxy for Mark Ashton FC. I wouldn’t mind if he was a steak holder, he’s literally an employee - he needs reminding, about three seconds before he no longer is.

In simple turns a deal was line up mckenna had the final say like always has and said no , hes probably stating thst there wasnt many option out there and felt Surridge was no better an option.

None of the players were upset , that’s absolute rubbish .
