Who knows? Even if he doesn’t, the problem is with a CEO in an organization as small as a football club, firing him is quite difficult this close to the end of the season, I’d imagine anyway. A CEO in a multinational with 20k employees probably has about 5-10 people thag could temporarily fill the role. A football club is different.
It’s an entire team that he has assembled and the investors sit on the other side of the pond. I doubt someone from ORG could come in for 6 weeks and handle operational side of it with hosting clubs and everything else that comes with the role.
There’s being involved in bigger picture plans, providing the funds and there’s the day to day.
Also considering the reports that the COO was also present, it would likely be a clear out not someone just stepping up. The easiest option was probably a Friday news dump, hope things calm down a little, see what happens on in the run in and then take it from there in May?
Could be completely wrong but buying time was maybe the play here. Often CEOs have months or even a year long exit strategy.
