Trump - running out of steam? A lesson to the world. 10:39 - Apr 2 with 828 viewsNthQldITFC

I don't think it takes a professional psychologist to note the untypical lack of bombast in Trump's address last night, does it?

To me he was notably subdued and looked like he's starting to topple, tiredly, off the dungheap of bullsh!t and flip-flops that he - supported by his complicit yes-men - has built up over the last decade or more.

There can be only a small proportion of once-upon-a-time 'Trumpites' in the world (probably more in the US) who still believe in this ridiculous, self-interested charlatan - his incoherence, stupidity and danger to all of us must be wholly transparent to everybody now.

It's not wrong or embarrassing or weak or soft to change your mind once you have more evidence. It's just good common sense and moving forward.

The astronauts on Artemis will look back and see a small, vulnerable, finite and constrained planet suffering, maybe dying, under the pressure of human beings and our unchecked, commercial and military activities - it can't survive that pressure indefinitely, and all of us and all of our children are riding on that thing.

We, and many other countries, face similar risks in our own political arenas, with self-serving, deceitful individuals claiming that isolationist dogma and untaxed big business is the way forward. It's madness, complete madness. The pressures on our society and our environment are immense and the only way we can get through is to co-operate and reduce our impact where we can.

Don't let Farage take us down a similar road - turn away quietly from self-serving populist politics and don't enable these charlatans. It's desperately important. There's no need to own up to anything, just quietly and sensibly turn away from it, for the sake of a future for our children.

Good work by Philogene...... GREAT WORK BY PHILOGENE!!!

I’m not sure it works that way in America. It has always struck me as very insular. Countries within countries. I’m guessing he still has mass support, not least because people lap up bombast, bullying and perceived strength (even if it’s actually weakness).

But who knows? Not me. A nation of 300 million people that I’ve not been to in six years I guess those who live there will be able to offer a much better viewpoint.

He’s clearly a powerful man who has surrounded himself with weak ones and utter dimwits like Vance and Hegseth. Dictators always do that because that way they’re never challenged, never wrong. You are right in that it is not embarrassing or weak or soft to change your mind but people like him will never do that or even consider it.

I don’t think Trump will live too long. He’s got that ‘look’, but who knows what will follow?

The lesson for the likes of Starmer is that the world is a different, fractured, dangerous place. This country needs to protect itself and tie itself in with reliable partners. International rules and law as we know it are as dead as Elvis. They’ll have to be remade by all those countries authoritarians like Trump dismiss as nothing.

He has to make a start by doing more than concerning himself with his party and his perceived party voters. He has to do the right thing. Do that and Farage and his cabal of idiots and failures go away.

In other words, big picture in the way Attlee approached things in 1940 in backing Churchill, despite how untrustworthy he appeared and completely at odds with the Labour Party in so many things.

One of history’s underrated figures, Attlee.

I see Starmer is looking for more EU connections.

What I'm getting at is more the underlying feelings and beliefs that I suspect many of his 'supporters' have about him now, rather than the way they act or speak.

There must be at least a massive amount of doubt in some of these people in their private thoughts - what the world needs is for people to listen to themselves really, rather than staying on the horse you put your money on ten years ago.

It's time to quietly listen to your own logical mind, and ignore the ego and the anger-body. It's going to be the route to self-preservation, particularly as AI and robotics takes hold and corporate entities are unrestricted and prepared do anything in the pursuit of that most meaningless and dangerous of metrics - share price.

He needs to do that and fast. He also needs deeper, better relationships with the likes of Canada, Australia and Japan. Like minded countries facing similar challenges.

Yes this is good and sensible. His initial instinct was to run and meet Xi which was a pathetic move. Not sure we want to be cosying up to a country that puts people in camps and uses forced labour.

Europe (Hungary aside) offers liberal, democratic institutions and a wealthy consumer base on our doorstep. And we need to be at the centre of the re-armament of the continent with US now an unreliable and unpredictable ally.

Our armed forces, weak though they may be in some ways these days, could still be offered up as a keystone of a pan European Defence Force, which could give some leverage to go some way to reversing some of the idiotic decisions made in the last ten years.
