Coach Travel Questions 09:27 - Apr 27 with 1110 viewsAnimal

I'm travelling on the supporters coach to Southampton. I usually drive, taking my daughter, but I did not think this would work as an after school trip. I have a few questions, having not used the supporters coach before.

I've booked to get on at Marks Tey, and that is confirmed on my confirmation email. It also had a helpful map to show where the coach stops, by the Shell garage.

I was expecting to have to book on to a specific coach that stopped at Marks Tey, but that did not seem to be the case. Do all the coaches stop at Marks Tey to pick up, and I just get on the one with my number? I also booked a specific seat. Does everyone sit in their allocated seat? (I'm happy too, just want to understand what happens normally from a regular traveller.)

As we are setting off at 1315 from Marks Tey presumably we will stop somewhere on the way down, and perhaps on the way back too? What time can I expect to be at the ground. (Obviously you will only be able to estimate, because of traffic and so on.)

Is there anything else that I might not have thought of. As the coach is new to me (Noj match aside) I am not sure what question I might need to ask!

They don’t allocate a specific coach to do the pick up, they all turn up! You should have your coach number on your email.

People tend to sit in their allocated seats but some coaches are sit anywhere, if you’ve booked specific seats then you will sit in them.

Coaches have been getting to grounds earlier than they used to, traffic depending. I’d imagine it’ll be around 18:00.

Yes you will probably stop at Clackett Lane or Fleet - for around 45 mins on the way. Probably a 15 minute confirm break on the way back.

I wasn't clear. I meant that my daughter is not coming to this one and that's why I am going on the coach. I would like to use the coach more often in principle but the petrol costs are less than an adult and a concession on the coach. (She would not want to miss school to go to the football and I would not be very comfortable with that either, but I make no judgement on those who do miss school for football.)

We make it to Leicester, Coventry and London regularly as an after school trip, but I felt Southampton was too high risk of missing a significant amount of the match. She admitted she hopes we do not get promoted at Southampton, which I totally understand! (She may be taking promotion for granted having regularly started going to matches in 2022!!)

Ah fair enough, yeah no judgement here either

We did Portsmouth after school the other week, got there at 7 but I don’t want the rush around for tomorrow plus my lift is leaving earlier.

Suppose it depends on which part of M25 is least congested, M3 is more or less half way around M25.

I didn't attempt Portsmouth, sounds like I should have done! I got a nice pic of my daughter outside the ground in glorious sunshine on 3rd January! I did take her to Oxford after school, but the M25 worries me!

Indeed - barring major traffic problems we always use the northern half of the M25 (and stop at South Mimms services).

If all the coaches turn up at Marks Tey, presumably the 1315 departure time is over cautious, bearing in mind they leave Portman Road at 1300? I'm not planning to turn up later than 1315, but I guess I don't need to turn up at 1300.)

I'm going round in circles try to figure out how to reply without quoting a previous message!

If their planned departure time from the ground is 13:00 I expect they'll be there sometime between 13:20 & 13:30. They might leave a few minutes early if all on board before 13:00 but 13:15 should be perfectly safe. Just don't be late as they won't wait.

Has no one volunteered the "best parking for Marks Tey pick up" ?

Stansted?

I think I'll just walk from home to the pick up point.
