I like it but the problem I have (with many versions of songs but perhaps particularly those from Five Leaves Left) is the loss of the original arrangements and Nick's very distinctive voice/delivery.
Definite echoes of late-career Leonard Cohen, which, from me, is a compliment. Not sure the arrangement really suits; Drake's minimalism is very much part of his whole sound.

I know nothing about Nick Drake, so coming at this fresh and its great. From memory, i often like your music links - you have taste!
Thank you, and I will now admit that as well as having a maternal grandmother born in Norwich I also have a single by The Higsons in my collection, and I think I knew their provenance when I bought it. Furthermore I am greatly impressed by the managerial talents of Jens Berthel Askue but only I found out his provenance as a player earlier in the week, still rooting for Motherwell to finish ahead of Hibs though.

I quite like it, which is positive as I generally don't like many Nick Drake covers. It has the feel of the original.
I didn't like much of the The Endless Coloured Ways album that I heard. Only one I likes was the Fontaines DC cover of Cello Song.
Fontaines certainly take the song and give it the respect of interpreting it in their idiom rather than a bland near verbatim version, I don't dislike it at all but the one I like most from 'The Endless Coloured Ways' is the Steve Parrish/Aldous Harding 'Three Hours' which has a propulsion that gives a stronger meaning to the time pressure indicated by the lyrics. Also find the John Grant rendition of 'When The Day Is Done'very touching even though it is nearer to a straight cover, I guess it is the distinctive voice.
Beck and Nick Drake fan, so thanks for posting that; really like Beck's quieter albums and only just occurred to me how similar some of the tracks are to Nick Drake!

I've just realised while this tune appealed - its got James Bond music chords.
Has anyone ever looked at their own postings for last day or so? Oh my... so sorry. Was Ullaa
I like the Seu Jorge and Fontaines versions as they aren’t carbon copies of the original. If you’re going to do a cover you have to make it your own. Any Gravenhurst fans here? Eerily similar to Drake in many ways including a premature demise.

Love Nick Drake. So pleased that more and more people discovered his music decades after his passing.
Got into him a bit after Wellers Wildwood era took me there. Him, Syd, Traffic in that very, pastoral, whimsical at times, English style of singer/songwriter psychedelia.

I think some artists are very difficult to cover. Nick Drake is one of them as you can't really capture the angst that he was going through that ultimately led to his premature demise. That said, I think the Seu Jorge/Beck track stands up really well in it's own right.

Agree with this. Morning Phase is a great album.
