Can Ed Schwartz and Brett Johnson learn from Spygate? 19:35 - May 20 with 849 viewsLegendofthePhoenix

The Southampton case shows a complete lack of governance in the football club. They have been unbelievably stupid. But that is precisely why organisations have governance structures.
Please, can the 3 lions appoint a chairman to whom Mark Ashton is accountable? We all know what happened a few weeks ago at ITFC. It just shows how, no matter how much someone wants the club to succeed, that sometimes catastrophic decisions are made that some oversight and governance would have stopped. Let's get a good structure in place and never be regretting the lack of governance again.

Regardless of what happened here a few weeks ago, I think it just makes common sense to have different people as CEO/Chairman. You end up holding yourself to account otherwise!

If nothing else happens, an independent Chairman is desperately needed (i.e. not Ashton promoting Luke Werhun to the role).

Many fans questioned Ashton taking up the Chairman position following O'Leary's departure - including to Ashton himself at at least one Fans' Forum - and were reassured that nothing could possibly go wrong.

A lot can be said for the likely direction of the club under the new ownership, particularly growing commercialisation based on their ultimate aims and objectives, but one would like to think that, at the very least, the Farage debacle would not have been allowed to happen had Ashton been accountable to someone other than himself.

It's a fair point and one I agree with but having separate Chairman and CEO roles doesn't seem to have helped Southampton avoid this particular problem and it probably wouldn't have prevented the Farage situation either.
