| Champions League Qualification 23:49 - May 20 with 988 views | Trequartista | Why do they have to make things so ridiculously complex? Villa finish 4th we get 5 champions league places, Villa finish 5th we get 6 champions league places??? | |

I just read why, it's because we should get 4, and because of our performance in Europe this season we get an extra one, but they don't apply that rule until last, so it's : 1 . Top 4 qualify 2. Villa win Europa league but don't make top 4 so qualify 3. Good performance this season so get an extra place

It’s just a gift I have ChatGPT couldn’t get it even after I pointed it to the bbc article attempting to explain it

The whole point is to make the Europa League (which seems to get derided in England because it isn't the Champions League) more valuable. Obviously that adds a layer of complexity.

| Champions League Qualification on 10:26 - May 21 with 634 views | Pinewoodblue | What is ridiculous is that, ignoring the relegated teams, half or more of the remaining 17 qualify for European competitions next season. Under the new rules Premier League rules teams that qualify for Europe have a financial advantage over those who don’t and the three promoted sides. | |

It's not "ridiculous", it's a reflection of the financial clout of the Premier League. That's why it's going to be hard for Town to stay up next season - all the incumbents have the financial firepower to attract some of the best players in Europe.

| Never forget that on 7th. April 2021, for ITFC, the Game Changed. |

Nice idea, but if you think a competition involving games between the champions of England, Spain, Germany & Italy and the champions of Luxembourg, Slovakia, Belarus, Hungary etc etc are going to excite the fans, you need to think again. You can't put the clock back now that football has become huge business.

It's sport, what's that got to do with excitement? Unfortunately the Champions League like most football is just a TV show and those in the grounds are the equivalent of a studio audience.

You don't have to turn the clock back in that respect, but the name could easily be changed from 'Champions' League (as it's not just champions taking part) to something like, say, for example off the top of my head.. the European Cup, maybe?

And a cup for Uefa clubs that dont qualify for the "European Cup" could be the Uefa Cup Could also have a separate competition for all the Cup winners in Europe called The Uefa Cup winners cup! I think weve cracked it😉😂

To be honest, I've only summarised the outcome there, I haven't shown my workings. What I'm referring to is that positions 1-5 are champions league places but position 5 is a special position because it was added on through EPS. This means that if you finish 1-4 and win the Europa League (or Champions League), the Champions League spot for winning the Europa League (or Champions League) goes in the bin (as far as English qualification is concerned), whereas if you finish 5th and win the Europa League, you qualify through winning the Europa League and the EPS spot is handed to 6th place. I mean why is there a difference between a Champions League spot gained through normal co-efficient league position and a Champions League spot gained through EPS league position?
