I think Ashton has a rep of using the French market thanks to that striker he got at Brizzle etc. we saw it last summer too with Kipre.

We’ve already been linked to Egan-Riley who I think would be a great signing. Encisco is out there I notice so there’s clearly a level of players from English premier league teams who maybe didn’t make it at their club and have gone out there.

I think Tyler Morton fits the bill for us. Will know the club having competed against us, has a great pedigree and fits the sort of profile you’d think McKenna or his successor wants. Tessmann is also out there and one we might rekindle.

You’d hope we are attractive enough to be even a stepping stone for some of these players if they keep us up and get to progress in a year or two back to the top of the Prem. There also looks like the potential to get an “African anchorman” which please Paz no doubt.

We better start trying to get them over here now. Have you seen the size of the queues at the border?!

We’ve got to go into the foreign market just because of the price differences compared to established PL players. I don’t know enough about those particular players to have a view, but Morton is ex Liverpool isn’t he, so should be ok with the demands of the PL. We need pace, power and technical ability wherever it comes from. I don’t think we’ve got the luxury of players like Cajuste this time, as much as he had a nice turn.

The French Scandinavian and Eastern Europe are the best places to hunt bargains.

I think that knee issue really told this year. And that’s the gamble with a player of any price. We are going to get someone with question marks over them as far as the mega clubs go.

Perhaps the World Cup will do us a favour if the big boys go mad snapping up the stars and we can exploit squads who are top heavy etc

Yeah, it was a gamble and I agree we need to be looking at those sorts of risk. Same with youngsters too, who may or may not deliver. We did alright with some of our youngsters last time (Delap and Hutch especially) so hopefully we can repeat that. We need a couple of wily older dogs too imo, esp CB and CM. Look how someone like McGinn holds Villa together for example. They don’t have to be flashy or foreign, it’s just finding that right fit at the right price. ‘Just’ lol - if only it was that simple.
