The World Cup finishes on 19th of July and the season starts on 22nd August, so I am expecting a reduced number of friendlies this year. Maybe one of those Austrian training camp / made up two round trophy things and a game against a Premiership club in Scotland (Motherwell would be interesting.) As well as football fatigue there is going to be precious little time to bring in new signings and expect them to gel.

Poll: Jack Clarke is

Thank you, much as I expected

Think it’s Spain this year, not Austria.

Kieran told me Spain on the pitch after QPR. Think there may well be as many as three pre-season home games, certainly a couple.

At least this summer we don't have to dig up the pitch or massively renovate the stadium.

Good Lord! Whatever is it?

No, although I assume they'll do the usual scrape and seed. Last year they got the company who installed the hybrid pitch to do it, so would guess the same will be the case this summer.

Also heard a pre-season game at Oxford United has been pencilled in for August 1st. Not confirmed, though.

Wonder if there'll be a West Ham one. Fairly convenient geographically and now we won't be in the same division that's not an issue.

Poll: What % of our full potential are we currently playing at?

I wouldn't expect a massively reduced number. They played 4 in 24/25 and 4 again last year. If anything there are likely to be more this year. They'll have minimum 4 weekends once again this year (26th, 2nd, 9th & 16th) and you would have thought if they're back early July they will be wanting to get minutes by the 19th.

I also wouldn't expect the World Cup to have a massive impact. We will have 30+ players not at the World Cup who will need to get their match fitness and that will be the case for almost everyone outside of those stacked full of international players.

Athletico Madrid, Real Madrid and Barcelona so we can work out how to play a low block and get used to playing without a lot of the ball.
