| Anyone else feeling low this morning? on 08:10 - Jun 11 by nrb1985 | A discussion for another day but with the benefit of hindsight I’ve started to think last season was probably his greatest achievement given the various SNAFUs along the way. A bit like when Jose said getting United to second was his best ever season - we all laughed at the time… |
It's probably also fair to say that it took an apparent emotional toll on him which maybe was a factor in his wanting a break.

| Anyone else feeling low this morning? on 08:20 - Jun 11 by jasondozzell | I think this is absolutely right and I thought it during the season. It still makes me annoyed how many idiots we had moaning who had no idea of the context. KM (albeit it in his usual diplomatic and understated style) was practically screaming from the rooftops early on about the challenge. Huge turnover, some players unused to champ, expectation and relegation hangover etc. plus inevitable recruitment hit and miss. He was absolutely exhausted at the end. It had taken everything. Suspect that affected his thinking this summer. |
There were plenty on here (in excess of 30) six months ago that wanted him out of the door. Fired. Booted out. I presume they’re all happy about yesterday. They know who they are and perhaps they can suggest a replacement? I hope what he achieved last season will be properly recognised in the future. It should be. McKenna, club and players had a massive target on their backs from the off and the opposition played accordingly, yet they came through. The table at the season’s end doesn’t lie. It even had the cherry on the top of trampling on our dear friends up the road - twice.

When people dig out Ashton for us being ‘well protected’, I suspect he’s made us TOO well protected. I think the substantial compo has put off KM suitors, and that’s why he’s taken the decision to sit out the next 12 months and wait a lucrative offer as a free agent. He’s earned that though, I think people are being overly negative in that we must surely be an attractive proposition for a new manager. Great facilities, well backed, building from a higher base than Coventry and Hull (as non parachute teams). I think we probably need an ugly and pragmatic manager style for next season as unpopular as that will be. (Dare I say it a Cooper type).

I imagine those were the contract negotiations alluded to by EIEIEIO and Portmanking.

You're probably right. Don't get me wrong, I wish him all the best and he deserves this time off. Just unusual these days I guess not to just move to a new club. Maybe after a few weeks off, he'll miss us and want us back.. "It's not you, it's me".
