Is it the reflected glory of being Manchester United manager because he didn’t really get that because he was a good manager let’s be honest. He got it because of vibes. There seems to have been quite a lot of revisionism over his job there. I remember distinctly he was regarded as a bit of a joke figure - surviving on a wing and a prayer and bits of magic from their best players. The finishes weren’t bad, but I don’t think anyone ever really felt like he was a proper manchester United manager. He also stunk the place out at Cardiff city and was fired after being relegated. Can’t see it myself. I think if he wasn’t a famous player, no one would look at that record and say yes get him in. [Post edited 11 Jun 20:21]

None of those clubs would have gone for OGS. in my opinion. If not then I’d rather gamble on Hellberg. If you look at the underlying Boro data and the way football people talk about him, he seems like he’s got something special.

No evidence why but this idea of a McKenna clone because they were both at United only works if they are indeed clones. Which they are not. It’s all very subjective. My inclination is towards a young hungry manager rather than a worn out hasbeen from the merrygoround. A proper club man that will truly engage with what makes ITFC what it is. But I’ve not the first idea who.

That’s the route I’d like us to go down, pluck someone from say the French league, as we seem to have one or two connections over there recently. Now hellberg is someone I could get behind, especially if he could bring a certain someone with him!
| Old enough to have seen my team win a final at Wembley, but not lucky enough to have witnessed the great Sir Bobby era. |

The circumstances for each team are totally different. What may work in the context of one club at a given point in time isn't necessarily what works at another. Palace, Bournemouth and Brighton all had more 'boring' solid managers before they went to Europe to make appointments. I do think OGS ticks some boxes. When something has worked you don't need to rip it up. I think he could come in and provide some continuity with the backroom team and he's worked with the new recruitment guys at United too. Knows the PL. Has some gravitas and pull when it comes to convincing players to sign. Very close with McKenna and will have the inside scoop on the current squad.

What's the underlying data? Seems to me like a guy who snatched defeat from the jaws of victory and was heavily reliant on one player.
