FT reporting that the US Owners of Palace are looking to sell 08:52 - Jun 16 with 1260 viewsSteve_M

Presumably seeing it as the peak of the market value for Palace.

https://www.ft.com/content/4b9

(Paywalled link but key parts)

"According to people with direct knowledge of the matter, the club is working with bankers at Raine Group to handle the process and is open to a variety of options including a full sale. The people added that other options for securing new capital were also on the table.

The club’s current ownership group includes Apollo co-founder Josh Harris, former Blackstone executive David Blitzer and Woody Johnson, a member of the family behind the Johnson & Johnson healthcare empire. The trio are designated as “significant shareholders” alongside British businessman Steve Parish, who has been executive chair of the club since 2010 and is a life-long Palace fan.

Harris and Blitzer together control 30 per cent, while Parish has 10 per cent."

Also describes Selhurst Park as "creaking" and alludes to the new stand not really looking like happening.

Think your last sentence is probably closer to the truth i.e. they've made money, don't really need the hassle of doing big infra projects.

Don't think anybody sees this as the peak of the market - least of all institutional US investors. Quite the opposite in fact.

Yes, taking profits to diversify your investments (or allow others to recapitalise your businesses) isn’t the same as thinking the market has peaked.

There is an argument that Palace are going to struggle to improve further on the pitch though.

You also have to assume that they think there are willing buyers out there for them to break cover - and I would be amazed if none of them are US based. If they have reached the end of their natural ownership maturity, why not monetise some of that investment on the back of a bit of visibility for the sport in their own market?

Yes, that's clumsy wording on my part. I meant that this is peak value for Palace so will edit.

Thanks

There will be no shortage of takers if they can make the dynamics with Parish work.

U.S. private capital believes there's still a tremendous amount of "value" to be unlocked from the EPL.

All good.

Said here a few times previously that I also doubt that the pension fund will hang around to see through our own stadium developments.

Just cannot see for the life of me why they'd bother having made 7-10x their original investment already.

Likely that previous investment strategies will continue: i.e. new investment (by new investors) as the value of the club rises, so the pension group can decrease their % whilst maintaining the capital value. I don't think they'll completely exit: we have far to go still.

I think you're probably right.

Will be continued partial exits over the next 3-4 years.

Can't see them wanting to hang around with a minority interest much past the 10yr point.
