Provably a whoosh… He paid 13pc tax on money he received from tax payers, and doesn’t even have to declare all his income like us plebs. Meanwhile the likes of us pay over half our income to the govt. Truly shameless.

You are mad. Give me £100m and most of it would be stashed away across the world to keep it Rachel and co hosing it up the wall. It’d be mansions, cars, booze, socialising, best nosebag, a nice big place near Park City Utah for the ski season a nice little villa for the summer - maybe Portugal, a small mansion in Suffolk, a box for the football with my own parking space. No doubt I’d waste the rest. I might pop in to visit Bob Cratchitt and Tiny Tim at Christmas just to make sure the goose was a little smaller this year. Keep ‘em hungry I say! Funnily enough a great grandfather was a corn and coal agent just like Ebenezer Scrooge…… Back to the Royals and tax, I’m not a monarchist (let’s hear it for Oliver Cromwell! Even if he was a miserable b’stard) so the finance thing seems a bit bizarre. We are talking telephone numbers and let’s face it, whatever tax they pay will be a fraction of the actual money rolling in, whatever the accounts say. I could never support an unelected person as head of state - unless it was me! Nothing like a grovelling flunkeys or two to kick around to remind you whose best!

Oliver Cromwell was a horrible puritan who'd have burnt his own Mother at the stake for sinning by fornicating with his Dad. Plus he was from Huntingdon, so in all probability was a total smackhead.

I know. I like him! Cromwell didn’t really do fun and neither did the Puritans. He was a good general though and the New Model Army proved to be a formidable weapon and a template for future armies. Even if you could understand what they were on about, I’m not sure you’d want to meet any of them. Charles 2nd was known as the Merry Monarch, not least because of his extravagant lifestyle - the opposite to the Puritans. But I suspect he wasn’t those most pleasant of individuals even by the standards of the 1660s. He certainly showed no merriment towards the 59 regicides who signed off his old man’s see ya later form. Three of them, Cromwell, Ireton and Bradshaw were dug up and executed - heads displayed for years on spikes outside Westminster Hall. The rest were hunted mercilessly. If caught, it was the hung drawn and quartered gig. A few escaped to places like America and lived out their lives in hiding. Rough old times, the 17c

In the same way mine as a retired person should be published, its only fair the lady solicitor who lives in a big flat near me should know how much tax I paid, I should know how much tax she paid. Same with Chris the painter & decorator, who i have a drink with in the pub, how much tax does he pay. How much does the family on benefits 2 doors down pay. How much did the head of the Civil Service (public funded job like the Royal family) pay. How much did the CEO of any UK pay in tax. Tax funds public services, so it should only be right everyone's tax should be published. That way people can say.... are you sure, that Bloom only ever drinks champagne in the pub and last year he only paid £4.50 in tax. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

When the crown estate is worth billions this seems a miniscule amount of tax. Even with the amount he is paying he is in the top 100 UK taxpayers in terms of revenue. Makes you reaise how much the ultra-wealthy are getting away with!
