Remains to be seen if hes as good a keeper as Gordon Banks but as well as being the best striker we have ever maybe but hes also currently close to being our best defender and midfielder too.... hes everywhere !

He scored one goal in three pretty poor World Cup performances. 87% of his England goals came in qualifiers and friendlies, often against poor opposition. Fabulous at Euro 2004, of course. But one decent tournament that ended in a quarter final exit shouldn't get you on that list IMO.

Kane's done more in an England shirt than Rooney did, not sure I'd confidently say he's a better player than Rooney though. Both genuinely world class, formidable talents.

Yes, an important distinction to make.

However, I'd argue a list like this has to be about the best players for England rather than best English players.

Otherwise you'd end up with some very odd entries - for example Kevin Keegan, one of the greatest players in the world for a decade, but never achieved anything with England.
