If we win this game 03:30 - Jul 6 with 2635 viewsSarge

It’ll be the greatest England victory in my lifetime. Mexico have been given every conceivable advantage before the game, a nonsensical penalty, and a red card.

He didn’t touch the ball, he went through the back of the lower calf / ankle. Don’t get me wrong it’s a little soft but I can see why it was given.

Tuchel’s been really critical of the ref, I’m not sure I can see it really. First 25 minutes when we were looking to draw fouls and stop them getting up any momentum I thought he did a pretty good job of giving them. Lesser refs would’ve bottled those.

He had 3 big calls and got them right I though (albeit he missed 2 live)

The biggest problem for me was the ref's inconsistency. Let loads of fouls go, yet penalised Saka for the softest contact, from which they scored their first goal. Ditto Kane's clearance for their penalty.

Fantastic win.

Altitude, kick off times, crowd disturbing the players at the hotel, S American VAR people, marginal decisions going their way, endless added minutes - let’s play till Mexico score is how it felt.

Yet they came through.

Having negotiated 20 or so minutes after their penalty with 10 men, then to see the announcement of a minimum of 11 added minutes was a real kick in the nuts!

Nonsensical Pen...are you sure?

Think I will go with the VAR team and ex ref Darren Caan on this one.

Yeah, given the amount he'd let go earlier in the game, the Saka one was totally innocuous.

Maybe a bit of inconsistency, although I was more annoyed at Saka for what looked a bit of a lazy tackle in the first instance, just show him on the outside and don't give the ref a decision to make, especially a few minutes before half time.

Its just the talk of bias or whatever that I think is unsubstantiated. Ultimately he had 3 big calls, and the one in our favour was actually the only one he gave without VAR interference.

It’s interesting, I’m in a weird place where I prefer the inconsistency to everything being analysed by VAR every two minutes.

Reminds me of the football I grew up loving.

The only issues for me were things like Lira balling out the ref and then later the fourth official, with zero punishment. Set the tone - like Mexico getting a free kick and simply walking to the penalty spot with the ball before VAR had even looked at , or confirmed it was one for Mexico.

Poll: Should VAR be scrapped?
