God, it's getting on for 6 years since we were all looking forward to Alan Judge ripping up League One.

I'm one of the people who was blamed for getting Paul Cook sacked. PM for the full post.

Ahhh, those happy memories of Ebanks-Blake and ‘Duke’ Ellington. KFC and McDs profits must have gone through the roof.

The ultimate though was Conor Sammon. The Derby supporters were rolling in the aisles when we took him off their hands on loan. Then I watched him play. My dad growled ‘couldn’t hit a cows @rse with a banjo’. He wasn’t wrong. The checklist of desperate - he ticked every box.

My goodness we had some desperate signings amongst one or two good ones of Murphy, McGoldrick, Cresswell, Bart, DJ for his loan spell, Mings, Chambers, Smith, Berra. All solid Championship or a little better. But it was all downhill from there.

Back to Leon Best, he played in Southampton’s FA Youth Cup side and looked promising. By the time he ambled out for us 10 years ago he was utter cr@p.

And then he told Mick his football was *"'# in the changing room during the Lincoln disaster.

Heady days.

To be fair to us, Best had had a good loan spell with Rotherham and rescued them from certain relegation under Warnock. Played as an out and out big number 9., wheres we wanted him to be more mobile, Murphy-like and that was not going to happen with his knees.

4 goals in 16 appearances for them. Tbf I didn’t remember that.

I just remember him lumbering around for us. Slow, disinterested, no control, no threat. Nothing.

Poor Mick really was reduced to trying desperate punts. Some of which did work.
