This time it's those swines at JP Morgan (and their paymasters) who are trying to stop everyone talking about inequality...by in fact publicly highlighting the growing UK inequality. They're now hiding in plain sight...
On a serious note, I will probably get involved with this so if anybody is interested (looks fairly London centric sadly) send me a DM, happy to connect. I used to work with Karen and she is brilliant - so I'm inclined to put some time and effort into supporting this.

Brings it home doesn’t it. It feels like we’re stagnating for a very good reason - we are. It’s no wonder people are pissed off. Except for those lucky pensioners of course. They’ve never had it so good! Not that I begrudge them that; the answer isn’t to balance things by making pensioners poorer (although I’m sure some people will be advocating for that). |  |

Looked at the figures quoted and just to illustrate how individual experiences can differ from the average, my personal circumstances are completely flipped. My real income level from 1995 to now is actually -1%, but from 2007 to now is +14%. Just shows how much I stagnated in the mid 90's and post 2000 years (>20 % fall in real terms) before changing job in 2011. Still in the older worker range, just! [Post edited 13 Jul 12:13]

We should assign all pensioners a few young people and start the redistribution now. Maybe some pocket money, or the occasional roll of fruit pastilles. |  |

Think you’ve missed the point.
They should have a rise if inflation goes up.

All pensioners already pay tax - in the form of VAT on taxable purchases that they make at the very least. Some of us pay income tax already...and council tax.
And of course, capital gains tax when we sell our ocean going yachts at a sizable profit so that we can get a bigger one. |  |

I didn't say that it did, I was waxing upon the point that the state pension is just below the threshold at which income tax starts and the worry that the poster who I was responding to had concerning an increase in the state pension not being accompanied by an increase in the threshold.
There is a more serious point about pensioners who only receive the state pension and who do not own their own home though. | |
